Well i'm normally very good with keeping my toys clean. but only got around to cleaning my chain over the weekend Use chain cleaner and paraffin to remove the horrid thick chain lube that Honda use on the chain. replaced with Wurth chain lube. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]
I was recommended Paraffin and works a treat and cheap at £5 for a gallon. Well worth trying it to keep the chain clean
Yep, i bought a big bottle from B&Q for about £6.50, it doesn't take much either, just plop some into an old clover pot, use the wifes toothbrush hehe, job done!
I think i will give that a go although i have always used WD40 in the past. Anyone here use gearbox oil to lube their chain?
Not myself but now others who use engine oil to clean the chain. got to B&Q and buy this Bartoline Premium Paraffin 4 Litres, 15135245 £7 for 4ltrs which will last ages
WD40 is 90% parrafin, some people reckon it can damage the O rings though. I use Muc off PTFE dry lube every 100 miles or a days rideout, while chain still warm. I clean chain once a month with paraffin.
I agree with it damaging the Orings (Xrings on the newer bikes ) Iused to sray WD40 on my fishing lures to stop the hooks rusting. On flying C's the ruber would degrade and split
Looking good, I need to do mine. I also need to stop using the bloody Castrol wax that honda use and recommend. It's a nightmare and covers the rear wheel, then it's a bugger to get off.
Lol I clean my chain every time I wash the bike! I'm a bit OCD tho I use gear oil on the chain. Just a few drops and brush it in with toothbrush then seal it with worth wax. Defo the best chain lube for not getting flung off. Agree that castrol is rubbish. I use wd40 to clean it but spray it on a rag not direct on he chain and wipe the chain.
I am very anal when it comes to detailing also, lost count how much I spent of wax's, Dod juice, you name it. But been enjoying riding the blade soo much that I just have not had the time.
I think I may go back to using PJ1 blue label. I used that on my 600rr for years and 10k+ miles and the chain was still in great condition when I sold it. Defo need to have a chain cleaning session like this though. My rear sprocket is disgusting.
