Hi all, the blade is slightly overdue for the 16K service. Honda Maidstone want to charge a fortune (£80 per hour). Does anyone know of a decent garage in Kent. I contacted Arthur but says he isn't taking on any new work at the mo due to other commitments. Any help would be appreciated!
Give J S Gedge a call on 01424 423708 (Hastings branch), i know they are not in Kent but they did a service on mine at a good price and got a free loan CB1000RR as well.
I get good service at Kent Motorcycles, and their rates are lower than Maidstone and they provide loaners
Thanks for the help. I just spoke to J S Gedge a call & they are doing the service for £150. He checked into what was involved, air filter, oil & filter change, valve clearance etc. surely that is too cheap? They are a Honda main dealer...
after the valve check they may have to re-shim any that are out so the price may go up, but i'm sure they will tell you before hand.
Js Gedges will do a 4000 mile service for £150 mine goes in on Saturday think you've been given bum info mate when I had my old 600rr 16000 mile service was over £400 try ringing js Gedges at Pevensey bay
Place near to me run by an ex honda mechanic is £300-350 for the 16k service. Not close to you but shows the sort of prices charged.
lol ... Dare I ask? The reason I mentioned it is my previous bikes needed valve checks at 24k miles ... Owners club recommended leaving it till the next one at 42k. Checking at 32k showed well within spec. Seems to be quite common on modern jap inline fours...
In my experience its very unusual for Hondas generally to need shimming i have serviced a friends RRY Blade from when it had done 44k miles it has now done 93k miles and the clearances have always been within spec . Have the service intervals changed on the newer Blades as valve clearance checks are every 16k miles up to RR7S
Don't think so, my manual says to check em at 16K. It's an expensive time on the blade. ABS bleed was at 12K & that wasn't cheap (barrel of worms!!!).
Of course you can, but it opens a can of worms just slightly smaller than the ABS debate I am the bad owner on here, over a 1/4 million Blade miles and have never bothered with a valve check....been flamed countless times. Still no engine failures yet.....
Would have to say £150 is whey to cheap, in fairness to the workshops there is a lot of work to do to check valve clearances. I did my own but engine was out at the time, 20,000 ish miles and all was fine.
I think a normal service, if it needs it. Consider the Valve question and how the bike is running, then make a decision at leisure, when you find a Mechanic that will do the job for a fair price and most importantly, with care and precision, make a decision. I think most people will think its not vital to be done at 16000, with only a 100mile window. Take your time, its not urgent. Getting someone to do the job poorly would be worse than leaving it. Good Luck, Mike.
Is it out of warranty now? If so just prioritise the oil change. If still under warranty and you want to keep the warranty you'll have to play by the book and get it serviced at a decent bike shop. After all it doesn't have to be a Honda dealer but they do have to use genuine Honda parts where needed.
