Is it worth the cost? I don't plan on selling my bike anytime soon and will surpass this milestone this year and not sure if its worth having it done or not. What have you guys done?
Did mine @16000 got the cover off and 3 exhaust were out of tolerance, on the tight side . Local bike mechanic charged £165 for rechecking the gaps and replacing the 3 shims and cam cover back on , I did the rest of the rebuild. PS everyone on here will know if you do it or not
It's not critical at that mileage, won't hurt to defer to the winter. Might even get a better deal at the garage when their not flat out.
I did mine @16k most of the exhaust valves were too tight. Has it done by a former honda technician so the blow was slightliy cushionned. My theory is they are on the tight side from the factory to allow for it to open up with wear. If you do no thrash your engine, may be worth to wait for 32k. Just my take
I did my 600RR track bike a couple of winters back as I noticed it had started to feel sluggish around 14k rpm and above. Probably 50% of the shims needed replaced. It had lost over 10% of its peak power based on before and after dynos and pulled much better afterwards. No idea what mileage the bike is on though as the HRC loom doesn't have a speedo sensor.
I had mine done at 19k miles by parkitt racing. Think it cost abput £300 , all were in spec and didn't need adjusting.
I have had mine since new in 2009 and done over 46,000 miles and not had valves checked yet. Supplying dealer said not to bother until after 50,000 miles unless it’s tracked a lot (mine’s never been on a track and I ride it fairly gently compared to some). I do always use premium fuel (Shell Vpower normally) in the hope that it’s helping reduce valve wear. Bike runs fine
Find an independent mechanic, I'm sure someone can recommend one over your way . I'd check it for ya if you were local to me for half the price
