    Hey all

    I currently have a 180/55/17 rear tyre fitted to my 2005 1000rr.

I'll be needing a new one soon and would really like a 190 wide rear. Is there any potential issue with this? Can it be fitted? Handling?

    Cheers in advance

shouldnt it have a 190/50/17 as standard anyways..... get the 180 off and put a 190/55/17 on..... 9999 xtimes better than a 50 profile

    Your totally right.

Should be 190/50/17 as standard. Just read my Haynes.

55 profile you say? That's interesting. Is this a common change?

You will certainly feel a big change with a 190/55

Looks like I'll be going for a 190/55/17 then.

Any recommendations on tyre? Fast road use. Not a road legal slick. ;)

What type of riding? Track days? Mostly summer?
    One up or two?

I ran 2CT's for years . no complaints and a very good lasting tyre . Give Sportsmarts a go if you don't mind spending the extra cash . I found these better and longer lasting

I have run bridgestones, Dunlops, pirelli and now Michelin pilot road 3's and find them excellent, so far i have used them for 3.5 k and they are not showing any wear yet, unlike my pirellis which were 3/4 worn.
I hear the new S20 is this years current tyre to beat, so i will be getting a pair of these given that i use my bike in all weathers!!!

2CTs whilst a great tyre at the time are quite old now. All the manufacturers have new models and technology moves on. All the latest tyres are very very good so it really does come done to personal preference.

I've had 2CTs which were ok but I felt they gripped and gripped until suddenly they didn't, rather that a progressively beginning to slide. Although I'm sure all the 2CT fans will jump in to say otherwise.

I've had the Rosso Corsas but have just ordered some Sportsmarts just to try something different.

So you can't really go wrong, choose on price, name or groovy tread pattern ! (did you see what I did there ?)

Any of the below are suitable for fast road use.

    Metzeler M5 Interacts
    Michelin Pilot Power Pure
    Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa
    Dunlop Sportsmart
    Bridgestone Hypersport S20

    My 2p :)

Agreed, a 180/55 tyre on your rear is not the standard fitment, but many people run it without problems & some prefer it.
A 190/50 is the standard size, but 190/55 are becoming popular; they are not used by Honda as standard fitment on the Blade.
A 190/55 will raise the rear ride height by about 10mm over a 190/50; this will give a feeling of a faster turn in; you will either like it, or not.
If you opt for the 190/55, your speedo reading will be off as you are changing the gearing. Fitting a larger sprocket on the rear (+ 1) will bring it back in line, but it will also shorten the wheel base a little.
Also keep in mind that the different manufacturers size are not all the same. E.G. a Pirelli 55 is actually about the same as a Dunlop 50 (just an example; can't remember which way around but you get the idea).

    Still following ;)

My recommendation is to go for the Diablo Corsa 3; its an excellent tyre, warms up well, gives good confidence & has a tread pattern right to the edge - for mainly road riding I mean.

I'm not sure what "fast road" means :p

Good balanced info there Swiss T :)
A follow on point to note is that non-standard (ie, not recommended by the manufacturer) tyre size can cause problems with insurance if the bike is in an accident. Insurers will use ANY excuse not to pay out.
