Does this chart apply to the ABS models?

Something I've thought about and upon checking in the owners handbook it's also mentioned there is the fact fitting different profile tyres to standard could confuse the ABS system as with a 55 rear the rear tyre will now be going faster than the original 50 series in relation ship to the matched 70 series front.

Anyone running an ABS specifically with a 55 rear who can confirm this is not a problem?

That's good to hear Rich but I spose you'll not know if there is a problem unless the ABS has had cause to operate in a potential 'off' situation?

If that has never arisen in the last 1500 miles, or ever, then how do you know everything is A OK?

That's my point though, having no issues does not mean it's fully functional does it?

Bike brakes by design are quite easy to ride in almost all conditions without the need for ABS, unlike Cars.

Therefore most peeps will never activate their ABS (if they have it) so might be oblivious to any lessening of it's performance.

    A 190/50/17 has a rolling diameter of 621.80mm

    A 190/55/17 has a rolling diameter of 640.80mm

    That's a diff of nearly 20mm!

Being as ABS/Traction control etc all operate on miniscule measurements taken at hundreds or thousands of times a second I'd say wopping a 20mm diff on the rolling diameter has got to have a significant effect on the on-board computers calculations?

I have the 55 profile on an 11 ABS no issues to report ,loads of heavy breaking and acceleration but looking at the reports about faults it appears that maintainance of the pistons and general housekeeping is part of the problem.

The difference in rolling diameter might not be a problem as the ABS only compares one wheel against the other?

No problem with a 55 profile fitted, was spanking the bike on the entrance to a roundabout and the road surface was a bit bumpy. I had the front cherpping on the way in :D No loss of braking at all whilst in contact with the road and no ill effects with the c-abs.

P.S. This was on a private closed road i might add ;)

Approval revoket for 55er tyres in Germany

I just let you guys know, that the following tyre manufactures revoked the approval
for the 55er tyres for the ABS Fireblade in Germany .

    - Continental ContiSportAttack 2 & Street - 55er ( including NON-ABS Version )
    - Michelin Pilot Power & 2CT, Power Pure - 55er ( except NON-ABS Version )
    - Pirelli Supercorsa SP, Diablo Rosso Corsa - 55er ( except NON-ABS Version )

The reason is, that Honda ( GE ) did not approve it because they could cause an ABS issue.
A German Motorcycle Magazine ( Motorrad ), tested in 2009 most of the 55er tyres on a ABS Fireblade and they didn’t have any issues at all.
The test guy was IDM-Superbiker Arne Tode.
