    I have ABS Blade.
Says in the book because of the ABS I must use 190/50 tyre. It's not a problem realy as I've just got a set of PR4's £180 a pair with a 190/50 rear. But it said if I put on a 55 it will effect the ABS.

I had a Speed Triple ABS which was the opposite 55 on rear but I put on a 50 and the ABS worked fine .
So what is going on, why will it effect my ABS?

Wish they would just leave everything old school.

Having the ABS is the only thing stoping me getting a 55 rear. My bike works perfect and never had an issue but others have had problems with the ABS and someone mentioned previously that a 55 rear could be one of the causes. Don't know if this is true or not but I'm not willing to take the chance,I find the bike turns fine on the road with metzeler m7rr.

ABS works on wheel speed and calibrated to work in sync with the tyre size used on the front. The different size tyre will have a slightly different rolling radius and confuse the ABS.

This is there so when it sees the wheels not turning at the same speed it thinks there is a skid situation.

Is the radius not measured at the exciter ring rather than the tyre. Nothing is measuring the tyre?

The tyre dictates the speed of the pick up ring :)

Just to trow a spanner in the works....

I have an ABS blade, read all about the possible problems of a 55 tyre and put one on anyway to try it and so far not encountered any problems on road or track apart from it rubbing the hugger

Then you are a lucky man as on my car if I have new tyres on the front and old on the back or vice versa, then it throws up the traction control and slows me down going round the slightest of bends, its a right pain in the arse. Damn you modern technology ;) Mind you, that is traction control and not just plain ABS, so maybe that's the difference?
