2008 Road to Track strip down advice.

    Me again,

    So the bike arrived, had been drained of fuel but once that was sorted it started and runs fine.

    So i now have this bike (see pic) and want to prep it for the track. Do any of you have the patience to tell me what i need to put on (lever guards ordered, tyres sorted including a set of scrubs for later in the week) but also what i should take off before going to Spain for 5 days in April?

    I am hoping that the list will help other newbies too.

    Save the plastics if possible and fit a track fairing. I know of a set near Lincoln if it's any use.
    Sort your brake pads and fluid.
    You've got the tyres sorted, so just take what spares you think you might need, chain oil, tyre pressure gauge, pump, tyre warmers, paddock stands, fuel can & funnel, folding chair, tool kit, ear plugs, visor cleaner, food etc.

    Don’t you also need to wire calliper bolts etc?

    Not for trackdays, those rules only apply for racing.

    Some tracks/trackday providers mandate safety wiring of oil drain plug + oil filter; use of only water in cooling system.
    You should tape over headlights (implying unplugging of them too) tape over mirrors, any other glass.

    Use SP98/E5 when on the track.
    Make sure your front pads are not near the limit, they will wear out.
    Check tyre manufactures recommended pressure for track use, normally a lot less than for road.

    For headlights I tend to just pull the fuse. Same for the ABS.
    I remove the mirrors and replaced with some blanking plates I drew up and 3D printed.
    Also one odd thing, I think European tracks are less restrictive about where you put cameras. I’ve seen some footage from the helmet which is not allowed at least on MSV tracks here. Also no cameras on the tank.

    For Uk trackdays you can rock up with any shit bike you want , as long as you have a brake lever guard, the correct leathers and pass the noise test you’re good to go. They don’t care about lock wire or coolant or tyres or anything else,

    Yeah they're all black, price is negotiable around £150-£200 I reckon as he's selling his bike with road fairings and the track fairings are just hanging in his garage. He won't post, but he's at the same UK Trackdays as me if you can do say Donington Park on March 27th?

    Donington is about 4 hours for me...each way so it may be cheaper to order a set and have them delivered - but thanks Muff the £150 is really tempting

    I was going to post a thread asking about mounting a Drift Ghost X that i have. I use it on my helmet for safety and to capture mates when out for a ride. Was thinking of mounting behind me on the rear seat cowling. Thoughts?

    My advice - put mounts everywhere, make sure they are secure, put an eyelet near to every one so you can secure the camera in case the mount fails.
    Then you can decide on the day where to put your camera(s).
    I put mounts on my yoke stem, tail piece, and front nose fairing, all designed and 3D printed myself. All of those options were good enough for Donnington.
    If you’ve got access to a 3D printer I can provide you with the files.
