Hi guys. I've been doing track days now for a couple of years and have been using a cheap pre-injection steel frame CBR600F-3 track bike for track use. Being 6'2 and 15 stone however, power to weight isn't great and I'm itching to get on a modern litre bike for the track so I've just bought a mint 2010 road going blade with just 4000 miles on the clock. Having spent £6000 on it however it's too much money to spend simply for track use so ideally I want to use it for track and road. The bike is pretty much standard (black with gold wheels). I plan on fitting adjustable rearsets and a quickshifter and having a set of slicks to swap over for track use. I would probably just remove the mirrors and disconnect the lights on the eve of a track day too. I don't think I'll bother with a race fairing kit or a full exhaust in the meantime as I don't plan on actual racing. Am I wise? Has anyone got any advice or suggestions?
I brought a 2013 blade a couple of months ago. Have ridden on the road since and planned on getting on a few track days (used to have a track bike r6 previous with day time mot ). About 4 weeks ago I was hit up the back in my car, it was then fixed about 2 weeks ago and then on Friday a old lady jumped a roundabout writing her car off into the side of me and smashing my car up again. I've now been crashed into "not at fault 9 times in 7 years" That was the last straw for me, the bike cost just over 9k but I'm going to track it. If I was on my bike Friday I would be in hospital not just in agony. So what I'm doing is track bike - with a day time mot just in case all the lads are out and I fancy a bimble through the twisties. It's such a hard decision when it cost £1000's to buy but that last crash helped me make up my mind, there are far too many mindless drivers now.
As far as rearsets go, is it worthwhile forking out for the likes of Gilles or R&G or are the Chinese ones any use? I've read good reports about the Danmoto rearsets. Are HM the best quickshifter to go for?
I use diamond. They cost a fraction of the price! Have used them on all my bikes and love them. The quality is great and they are British.
Got diamond on my track bike, work fine and seem to crash well lol I think most folk would agree that hm are the best quickshifters.... Love mine
Cheers lads. Just ordered a set of Diamond rearsets on your recommendation! They certainly look the part!
Blimey that was quick lol. They are good mate instructions could be better but take your time and your have no hassle. You will need to buy a pressure switch for rear brake light or they sell a kit. I just got a £5 pressure switch as in picture. Easy peasy
Not that I was clever enough to work out! As there is nowhere for the spring to attach or the switch. If no one else knows how then the pressure switch is a easy mod looks neat too
You wouldn't have an eBay link to the particular type of pressure switch you used? It's just that I want the parts to be here and ready to fit ASAP. Cheers!
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=181765566496&globalID=EBAY-GB That's the one I have on mine but if I could I would get one like these now, would make life a lot easier as it wasn't plug and play on the 2013 I had to crimp them inside the subframe to make them nice and neat. Not hard just little time consuming. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=400402782530&globalID=EBAY-GB Pitch is 1.25 and size is 10mm on the 2013 model I would double check it's the same on your model dude.
