Has anyone actually fitted one to 2008 + yet ? complete with working gear indicator ? I did see that 1000rr.net feature but haven't seen if he was successful with gear indicator ??
As far as I know the gear indicator is impossible as it's a mechanical switch in the gear box, HM dash is your best bet other features work fine.
Has it been modded that much ? from a 2011 to 2012 ? im not saying your wrong especially you ! lol but was considering doing a few alterations to my 2011 with a full facelift to a 2012 this winter.......
Manual shows that it is just a potentiometer located inside the casing, hooked up by a loom running to the new dash.
I don't have a diagram to hand, can't see why they would use a potentiometer over a muti position switch? See here http://1000rr.co.uk/mods-upgrades-accessories-products/13272-17.htm Shows individual wires for gear position, this suggests it grounds each position for gear, a barrel switch as used for many years to indicate gears.
Edited it Peter, found the diagram suggests a Multi point switch so it will be cast for it so the bottom end will be slightly different on the 2012.
Gear indicator is indeed fed by additional gubbins buried inside the MY12-13 gearbox which makes enabling this feature using a LCD Dash on a pre MY12 Blade nigh on impossible. One has to ask why anyone would bother when the HM Dash is far more 'Trick' and far easier to install??
I don't dispute the HM option is best one.... Just fancied a slightly cheaper if possible route to clone slightly more exact with current model but will scrap idea now..... I think there are other makes that will work along with gear indicator.... ? Seem to recall a blade on here a while back with different clocks.....
Lots of options mate, most with gear indicators work out the gear by maths from engine speed to wheel speed, this is why they 1) need to be moving before they can tell the gear and 2) take time to indicate the gear, the new 2012 blade as said has a multi position switch (rotary switch) that offers the advantage that it shows the gear regardless of anything else, click the gears even with out the bike moving and it shows the gear. The main plus side of the HM Dash over other makes is it comes with the sub harness and is fully plug and play, the others will need you to cut and splice the dash to the bike. I agree on the cost and know you'd agree that the HM is far more than just a very trick looking dash, but yeah its not cheap when you look at 2012 dashes that sell for 150-350.
