Hi guys and girls Have an ohlins on the way so this is up for grabs Big improvement on the stock 08-11 unit and looks better Im after 180 delivered or you can collect 170, based in north london/hertfordshire Thanks
Can confirm a good upgrade and well worth fitting if you have done a few miles - just be aware the hugger from 08 - 11 bikes DOES NOT FIT with this
Not hard to do. Use front paddock stand to stabilize the front. Use 2 car axle stands and place under foot pegs so the rear wheel is of the ground or use a Abba stand. This is to unload the rear wheel/suspension. Loosen exhaust clamp and remove hanging bolt by right foot peg. Loosen and remove upper shock bolt. loosen and remove lower suspension bolts. Remove shock from below. Re-grease all suspension linkage as their normally dry. Fit new shock from the bottom upwards. Refit all bolts and torque to correct settings.
Guys Whilst I have no comment on the bargain price for this shock, is it not possible for people to have their existing units rebuilt / serviced / re-gassed cheaper than forking out for a replacement? If on a tight budget surely this has to be the way to go & maybe get it serviced every couple of years or so depending upon mileage & whether or not you still have the same bike of course. Just my 2p
Gary, With labour rates now a brand new shock for 08 - 11 bikes was about £65 - £70 THis one is more as it is a far higher spec shock than the older bikes - you cannot turn an 08 shock into a 2012 one (not meaning to patronise there) I'm not sure on re-building the 08 ones - it maybe possible but it is certainly cheaper (or it was) to just buy a brand new one taken from a race bike - there are that many blades still raced at high level that ebay almost always has a zero mile shock (like this one) available
Hi - tried to PM you, but I don't have enough posts. Very interested - can I have first Dibs please .... I'm after some details of the shock though before I part with my cash... Would like to know what the history of the shock is, any model details, what spring weight is fitted ( or what weight is it dialed in for ) etc. Simon
Hi - just realised that this is the 2012 standard shock, but with a showa sticker on it - thought it was something more advanced. So releasing first Dibs rights ( if I ever got them ) as I have a source of one of these for less and the 0 miles on one ebay is only £5 more. Simon
Whilst any Shock can be re-built/serviced which will undoubtedly make it better, you/they can only work with what you have. The 2012 Shox (front & rear) are significantly better than the 2008-2011 models. This is not my view (as I've not had a Bike for years) but the view of two local suspension specialists who (between racing duties) set up road bikes for £50 and both stated that the 2012 Blade's suspension is a dream to set up and way better than preceeding models!
Just fitted some 2012 forks on my 2011 blade today and already have the 2012 rear shock fitted. I could do with a recommendation for someone to setup the suspension now as these BPF do not adjust like normal cartridge forks. Could you pass on the details of your two suspension specialists? Thanks - Steve
yes might be slight better but still its a stock suspension that will not work better on a race track for long ....with about 150pounds you can revalve your curent one and make it far far far FARRRRR better than any other stock shock .... basicly i dont know how much ppl charge here but thats the average price you get to do that in greece ....so buying a stock shock at that price is just super crazy ...i mean if you want it for track ...couse lets say 180 pounds + the revalving lets say the price i get in greece 150 ...and maybe you will need a spring couse normaly the stock spring is for a lot more weight than you are ....thats aroun lets say 80? so over 400 p ....you get a brand name shock at that price (used) no offence for the sell here ofc ...its good if you want to change your stock 08 and if your stock 08 needs a refreshing then why refresh your stock you buy this ....still the price i think is a bit high my 2 cents no offence i hope i just wanted to answer to that lines
Weather its for track or not, this is a big upgrade over the stock 08 shock period. Maxton do a spring for this to match your weight for 70+vat so EVEN at 170+80 thats 250, what shock WORTH buying can you get for 250? Lol Also greece is greece, were not in greece were in the uk where you can buy sweet FA for 170£, yes its a stock shock but off a 2012 technology bike with a complete different mech. Its been tried and tested, everyone that has done it has a good word to say and says its a big improvement incl myself Unless your buying a FULLY asjustable 3 way shock which will cost you grand Min new and 500 min second hand, this is the next best thing imo
I have the 2012 shock from Luka Scasa (sp) Padgetts race bike fitted by Kais - Kais were complementary of the damping on this - How much do you think Showa / Honda spent developing this for the bike. End of day its one of those things - all those who have done this upgrade rate it highly, those who doubt it have not done so Its since had its adjustments 'changed' and the bike is not riding as well as it did - may ask Kais to set it up again
my friend you probobly dont know about racing or track days ....even if you buy ohlins it needs revalving depent on the tracks you run in to ...thats a STOCK shock and no will not work better after 5-6 rounds it will be so soft that you will have all the ajustments almost full closed to make it work ...at least on hot days ,so you still need revalving period .- i am not saying its not a good upgrade ...i say not at that price . couse since this 12 model came ppl ask for crazy prices of used parts ....for examble with the wheels .
