As it was such a nice Sunday, and knowing that the usual crew were returning from Kpone’s I thought I’d entertain myself and go for a run in this beautiful warm sunny weather we are having. So I did a bit of DIY and off I went. But, where to? I know, Hawes – no, Hawes will be full. Hartside then? yeah. So off I set. But I could see when I was heading towards Kendal that Shap looked a bit black and overcast, could even be snowing up there. I needed a change of plan, how about Whitehaven? Go on then. A quick turn around and had to follow a Police car for what felt like hundreds of miles but was probably only about 4 miles in reality. Then I got to follow a coach on the A595 that was getting a shift on at 65mph phew. I got to Whitehaven no problem had to take a photo’s of “Anna’s” thefirebloke’s (Steve) beloved eatery. To be fair it is quite a nice eatery and prices are reasonable. I didn’t go in though as I didn’t want to look too much like Billy No Mates. So I started to head off back home when I thought I’d take the much slower (even for me) scenic route, but first I had to head North to Cockermouth then south via the B5289, this is possibly one of the greatest scenic roads in the Lake District and it is even better if you are blessed with a very warm sunny day. Traffic wasn’t too much of a problem but if you ever fancy it don’t plan on passing any vehicles this road, it is too narrow and twisty for that. Be patient and soak up the views. As I was on the bike and not in the car it was much easier to stop and take photographs, so here are a few. So if someone tells you they've’been “t’ Lakes” just because they’ve been to a place called Windermere, don’t believe them.
Fantastic Kevin. Doesn't it go to prove what stunning views we have available quite literally on our own door step, When you can access such stunning scenery as in your photographs in around an hour, once there, it's not always about the speed. Thank you for sharing.
Top run Kevin and very jealous At least when the summer ends you can look back on great days like these and you will be spared on until the next summer.
Great pics Kevin looks like you had a great day....who needs mates hey! Being a northern lad myself I know the lakes very well and like you quite rightly said there is more to the Lake District than Wndermere.
Hey Kevin.......I like the pictures taken at Crummock Water showing the kids clambering out of the lake to get a better view of your blade.
