Hi all, came across a post in the Honda Fireblade UK Owners Facebook page about a 2008 owner with a broken bottom end engine issue. One of the replies said to chuck a 2017 engine in it as its a relatively easy swap. Is this correct? I'd imagine you'd have to bring the whole loom, dash and ECU with it. I know the 2017 model wasn't the major upgrade that everyone was expecting but its still a very decent motor at (claimed) 189bhp.
Was there not someone on here who did something similar? Yep, here you go: https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/2010-running-2018-engine.42090/#post-560306
Engine straight in, no other parts needed from newer model. I think you have to add the knock sensor that’s it. But yeah it’s basically a put in a go. No loom needed etc If you have 08-11 loom as no gear indicator you have a single green wire on a nipple for neutral. This you just need to splice into the wiring section above the sprocket that comes already built in the engine as such. Simple to do.
