For those with the new blade and had the recall done, just a little warning. A mate of mine had the fuel tank seal recall done, we took the bike out for its first proper run since it was done and twice it shut off at speed, smashing his nuts into the tank! Very lucky it happened when going in fairly straight lines as it could have had him off if he had it on its side. Took it straight to the dealer, they said if there are no engine warning lights etc on the dash then there isnt much they can do Booked in for diagnostics at next available slot which is couple weeks away! In the mean time he stripped and drained the tank and found the fuel was contaminated with water. Hed been told this was sorted as part of the recall but obviously not, or there is still an issue with the seal! Gutted for him as the service hes receiving isnt what youd expect when youve bought a near 20k bike.
How can you bond with your bike when things like this happen, that's not good , you need to trust what you're riding
Thanks for the heads up. I thought this would have been well and truly resolved by now. I can't see too many dealers draining a tank; it would usually be the 'quick fix; method. Hope your mate's sorted it now. Valid point also about the 20K price - owners should expect better - but even with a 5K scooter a rider should not be subject to such danger. Fortunately for me, the only water my bikes see is a damp chamois.
Dealer hasn't done his job properly, my dealer checked the tank for water contamination, i've never parked it in the rain so was confident it would be ok, but the dealer checked it anyway as its part of the recall
They told him it was checked. Think he mentioned some kind of test kit/dip thing? Its more the way they were so unwilling to take a look at it other than saying, no light on dash means no fault. Might aswell have said he made it up lol. Hopefully thats the end of it now and he can gain the trust back in it.
The great Honda customer service still exists then... I wouldn’t buy a new bike off them if they were the only dealers left.
I had to laugh at the smashing his nuts thing (sorry) Theres a road on my way home with two massive undulations in it, I overtook a van *once* there and smashed the living daylights out of my balls on the tank (an up and down then up and down - a double nut crusher, if you will) ...actually took my breath ...so whenever I hear about nut smashes I always chuckle and then wince a little... Fecking dangerous for your pal though and Honda response is shocking
I feel your pain, Raphael, but that's a far-reaching generalisation. I have nothing but praise for my dealings with my local dealer in Stratford-upon-Avon. As with any commercial enterprise, there will be those who toe the line and those who treat it with contempt. I am extremely biased toward Honda because of my good experiences, but it saddens me to hear that one or some experiences have put you and perhaps others, off the brand (new bikes at least) for life.
Think I'd better PM you for the exact location. Then, if I plan on being up your way, I can dig out my old cricket kit, baby wipe the mould off my protector, coat it with leather balm, and then jam it down my Cal Crutchlow Calvin Kleins in preparation for a bumpy ride!!
I took mine in and the dealer said he will check the fuel to make sure there is no water in it and he said if there is it will be a longer job as a new fuel tank etc will be fitted as well , and mine was just a fuel filler cap and all good.
Part of the recall is to drain the fuel. But even if it wasn't, why would the dealer not drain the fuel anyway? When working on any fuel tank the first step is to drain the fuel.
