Hi I am just doing my research and I am looking to change my R1 trackbike for a 2020/21 blade. Just after a little advice on mods: Sprocket change Mapping Abs removal Tyre size From what I have research upto now the blade has a complex ecu? I have seen a company that send you a unit to flash the bike to take the sprockets, exhaust and tyre size. Motobull is the company? Has anyone used them? Also has anyone any advice on ABS removal? Can you just put new lines in and leave the unit on the bike like the R1 s? Thanks in advance James
Don't know about ABS, but just pulling the fuse would work, however the new Blade does have race ABS mode you can select on dash. Another lad on the SP facebook group has fitted a 43 tooth rear sprocket and had no problems with traction control plus speedo reads correct too. A bike hire firm had a new Blade on track last year and for wets they were using a 190/60X17 with no problem at all. As for the tuning, once you've put that 43 toothed sprocket on there'll be no need to have the ECU flash, these bikes are ballistic straight out of the crate, trust me. Hope this helps James?
Thanks for the reply, is 43t geared low enough? Heard they are really tall geared? Do you pull the fuse and put race lines on? I run the v02 s so they are a slightly bigger profile. Thanks James
Standard sprocket is 40 and the new 2022 Blade comes with a 43 tooth one as standard now. No to fuse, just put in ABS mode 1 for track. I've been using Power Cup 2's which are slightly big then most of the other tyre manufacturers and have stuck to the 200/55X17 rear with no problems at all, just getting hold of tyres now is becoming a problem. :-(
Nothing great bike just fancy a change. Went from an s1000rr to r1 but even though its an incredible bike , I just don't find the engine exciting.
Hi James, I have the 2020 blade and the 40 tooth standard rear sprocket was ok but you had to ride it like a 600 keeping the revs up to get any sort of grunt. I have put a 43 tooth rear sprocket on the bike now and what a difference. No errors on the dash either, the speedo is still accurate too. It has the low end grunt which lacked with the 2020/21 models..... The 2022 model comes with 43 tooth rear sprocket. I hope this helps?
What did you do about the length of your chain as putting a larger sprocket on with the existing chain length would shorten the wheel base, wouldn't it and effect handling?
You wouldn't happen to have a photo of where the rear wheel spindle is after sprocket fitment would you? Would be interested to see how much further forward the spindle is as I'm thinking of trying it on my Blade. Cheers in advance if you have Jay.
