Mrs Kpone declared her intention of riding pillion at the weekend so I popped over to CMS Motorcycle Spares in my lunch hour and invested in a Renntec Grab Rail. Fitting consists of two replacement bolts and two bolts undone to slip the rail in behind. Five minutes, possibly, half an hour definitely. Back inside for tea. Except, by no means the fault of Renntec, the standard alarm fitting site for the RR2, in the "boot", so to speak means that although the necessary bolts can be removed, they can't be replaced without derigging the alarm unit. I know, I know, if they came out that way they should go back, but trust me... Then, of course one of the friction machine screws that holds the alarm down just spins meaning it has to be held through the rubber mount with pliers, which means the rubber mount is now probably shagged. The washers used as spacers need to be held in place with fingernails the length of Indian fakirs while you push down on the rail to line the holes up sufficiently to insert the bolt with your third hand. Knacker the stiff rubber mount a bit more with the pliers while doing it back up, tighten all four fixings and close the pillion seat, except that now it wont stay down unless you slam it and wont re open unless you thump it while turning the key. All this, plus a black carbon ring from the exhaust on a brand new Fat Face Tee shirt. and Mrs Kpone says "it spoils the look of the bike". I hope she doesn't find the shirt before I wash it.
I've just ordered the rack come grabrail and waiting on it arriving, I've seen the pics and yes it doesn't help the looks but it's for the tt next year, I'll fit it and if I can live with the looks it'll stay on if not it's only staying on for the tt! Lol ps I liked the renntec ihad on my rrw!
How comes a five minute job always turns out to be a nightmare!!!! Do you ever go to paignton bike night on wednesdays?
There should be a new ammendment to Murphy's laws. A 5 minute job does not exist. Maybe new Murphy's laws would be a good new thread? Yes Andy, I do go down to paignton when I can but this summer things seem to be getting in the way more often than not. I can't make it, my mates can't make it, the weather!! how many weeks have we had glorious weathe until Wednesday night. Even got to Penn Inn one night and ran into a wall of rain. Wazzed around the roundabout and high tailed it home. Murphy again.
