Only had the blade since november so only had a few brief rides. Looking at rides out next year. One consists of 500 mile first and last day with easy days in between. Just wondering if 500 mile is achievable without a chiropractor at the end. I know there is lots of variables, age, flexibility general bike fitness. Doable or just a pipe dream?
For me it depends more on saddle time and average speed, have done a few 350's on A and b roads. Am sure others have done more though.
Done 500 mile non motorway days plenty of times.... Seems easier in uk tbh, but doable in Europe. But it's a proper day if your doing proper roads.... Many on here have done more no doubt, but that's usually about my limit if I've been on the bike the day before and on the bike the next day also.... Just reminded me of this... http://1000rr.co.uk/touring/4607.htm
I had it down as pretty full on. Day 1 may tire you out for the rest of the trip, possibly making you too tired for the last 500 mile day too. If it's A/B road type stuff then if poss try to bring it down nearer to 250 miles per day or spread the load, which may mean adjusting the route or the time you're away. Failing that you'll need to factor in a lot of motorway riding to eat away at those 500 mile days.
Oh you could just man up with it lol Life's an adventure - sleep when you get home ha Ps, it can be tough going ya right, but if you plan well you can do it.
Last year on the way back from Assen, we missed the overnight ferry, so we carried on down through France to Calais and the from Dover to Stafford which I think was about 550 miles and it was a killer. I have done 400 miles without much trouble but thats my limit
I'd say it depends on whether you are 'Bike Fit' or not? U say you've had the Blade only since November? Were U riding sumat else regularly before then? Either way 300-350 would be my limit on a Blade I'd be wanting a VFR1200 like Nicko's getting for a 500 miler!
Done assen to Calais to home in Kent 2 up on an r6 hanging out my arse from a three day bender!! Now that was brutal
Had a 600f before and did a couple of 300 mile days, bit of stiffness between shoulder blades otherwise ok. Going from cheshire to Applecross. M6 to Carlisle then A roads to bit of motorway around Glasgow then A roads past Loch Lomond through Glen Coe, past Fort William then another 111 miles on a mix of A / B roads. Bit of an old dog nearly 50 but compete in triathlons and won a few so still in resemble shape.
I've only had the Fireblade for a short time and never had time for a long day out on it. If I want a big miles day and if the wife is coming with me I use my FJR1300 - nothing like as much fun as the Fireblade but it's the only bike I've ever ridden where after 500 miles without touching a motorway or dual carriageway I'm looking for a longer route home. I've had a few big mileage days on the FJR this year and probably the best was 560 miles around my favourite Scottish roads.
Done Benidorm from newcastle in three hits if I could have sold GSXR k5 in Spain and flew back I would have,my arse was so sore on way back pulled in most services to dowse towel in cold water to sit on never again unless it's a decent tourer
That must be on motorways? I always take 2 days tbh.... My brain would crack before my arse on motorways, just can't stand it.....2 hrs and im climbing the walls
I've done 2k in 6 days. At the start doing 350-450 miles a day. Was not a problem but at the end of the week I needed to rest my legs every 150 miles or so but that would be due to my hip ops So yes the blade is more than comfy for doing long distance.
same as mate - so you done well imo. I find plenty of rest stops keeps you fresh for riding and you can then do more in a day.... the days weve had to cover serious ground and you try and smash the miles out, you normally hit the wall quicker and in the end it's harder....
The furthest I've done is Caen- Biarritz 501 horrible miles in one day !! If memory serves me and it does coz it's still etched in my brain n arse, the sat nav said 7 hrs,13hrs later after tolls and petrol stops and I might add petrol stops not rests we arrived and as been said if I coulda sold the bike I would !! The original plan was to ride the next 650 miles to Jerez the next day, after day one that never happened, we spilt that over 2 days riding to tank fills 120-130 miles stopping for an hour for coffee/ lunch/ afternoon coffee. We missed Friday practice day of MotoGp but our sanity and arses where better for it.! So although there are no doubt some high mileage heroes, trust me a tank full and a decent break is much more do-able and you won't want to sell the bike and fly home from your destination, just my humble opinion of course ........ Ride safe what ever your decision.
Jimbo your ride home after we split from The Scotland Tour must have been horrific ,I was like Steven Hawkins and that was landing in Warrington ....Still full respect to you Dave and the boys for full on Arse numbing stamina.
I did 1900 plus in 4 days on the BMW when we rode to the German Moto Gp earlier this yr....... 100 to 120 between stops....... yes we ached a bit but it can be done without too much hassle........ I should add that most of journey was through some of the most horrendous rain storms I've ever seen........... great fun though !!!
