Hi, I cant find my service book, can anyone tell me what needs doing for the 6k service? Services so far are: 600 mile: oil and filter changed, bolts checked etc. 1500 miles : oil and filter, new brake fluid, brakes checked and cleaned, bolts greased etc.. Chain checked, new tyres 3000 miles : oil and filter, new brake fluids, wheel alignment, chain checked. 5,000 miles : oil and filter, new brake fluids together with new hel lines, chain checked...still don't need any adjustment. I'm upto 7k miles now, anything needed do you think, apart from the above? Cheers all! Coolant looks new still, so that's ok.i
Alfie there is not. It's 600 miles the I though 4 or 6k. Just others like to change oil and filter more.
in the book its a 600 mile run in service 1st is 4000 2nd 8000 3rd is 12000 and so on so on every 4k Si they are all minor services till valve clearances at 16000 . I think they recommend brake fluid at 12000 but its unto
I change my brake fluid every year as its a hydroscopic fluid and only costs about £5-8 and 20 minutes time to do it. IMO the best time to do it is spring to avoid any moisture being absorbed whilst its in the garage during winter for storage remember its hydroscopic. Whilst I change the brake fluid I always give the calipers a good clean (internally not externally) and make sure every piston is free to move (amazing how many people moan about poor performing brakes but never clean the calipers, its most likely a sticky or worse still a seized piston effecting performance) Another tip is change the oil and filter at the end of the season. This stops the acids in the old oil attacking the engine internals during prolonged storage plus it removes all the sludge which will otherwise settle out over the winter storage period, fall to the bottom of the sump and then be the first thing drawn into to the oil pump come spring and possibly blocking it or causing a restriction. I always leave the fuel tank full as then there is no vapour space above the fluid for some of the lighter fractions of the hydrocarbon to flash off into which would leave a low grade fuel (i.e the remaining liquid fuel as part has flashed of into a gas) for starting in spring. Plus it stops any risk of corrosion taking place in the tank and has the added bonus your ready to go come spring without having to worry about filling up for your first ride out. Other ones are strip the rear shock and linkage and regrease, get the forks serviced (worth it at 7000 miles IMO) lube the chain and torque every bolt everything else I do is as the schedule.
I am not out to flame you BRR8 .. its just I used to work in labs and I just thought I would give you a small bit of my knowledge . You have fallen into the same trap as nearly everyone that uses that word 'hydroscopic' ... everyone assumes as its to do with water it must be 'hydro' ... in fact its 'hygroscopic' believe it or not . A hydroscope is a device for seeing under water . Hope you haven't taken offence
I'm with BladeRR8 - I replace the brake fluid every year in my bikes and they always feel better for it.
Im anal with brakes and change the fluid every 6 months, I do over 15k a year on a bike though so more than most bikes see in 10 years lol.
I live on my bike. Every holiday I go on is biking related. Wether it be touring, Seeing other biker mates, Trackdays, Comuting to from work ect ect. If I go anywhere its on 2 wheels or ferry and whilst im on the ferry, My bike is on the deck below
Because it means nice low millage second hand bikes for me to buy rather than loosing loadsa money buying spanking new.
I change the oil every 1500- 2k miles and filter, also the brake fluid. I've had the bike since jan, 3 services, 3 lots of oil, 2 sets of tyres, 3 lots of brake fluids and 2 brake cleans, I'm upto 7k miles now. Will do another one in march when the bikes on the road again, together with a rear tyre lol.
That's some top maintenance that mate! Lol Mines on 9k since feb and it was off the road for July and august.... Been a heavy year, also done 35k on a commuter but I killed that bike in oct
Right well my bike has been cleaned and put away for the winter now. I put addative in the fuel and filled the tank up, I also gave her a REALLY goos clean and used muck off spray all over the bike after she was dried off. Polished and put to bed under sheets and a proper bike cover. When its time to get her out again I will oil and filter change and also get the brakes done and change the fluid. I'm also getting a R&G tail tidy and engine sliders fitted, new tyres and rear hugger. My bike has only done 2015 miles. For next winter I will oil change BEFORE I store the bike, thanks for the tips. Also si I am watching that carbon shield thanks a lot mate
