    So a completely noob question...

Having managed to put nearly 500 miles on my bike this weekend, I thought I best ring the dealership about getting a 600 miles service... the earliest date is the 14th June.

There is no other local honda dealer near me, at least not one that I trust to actually touch my bike.

So how far would / could you in theory ride a bike beyond it's initial run in period? or should I just tuck it up in the garage until the date I've booked it in for :(

(I won't service it myself as I am a ham fisted ejit that can cross thread stuff that can not be cross thread, and I want it to have a dealer service history)

    Cheers

    Graeme

When I had my Triumph, they allowed a ~150 mile lee-way on servicing IIRC. As you obviously want the dealer stamp and are presumably mindful of the warranty, I'd suggest not riding it a huge amount.

Looking at the current weather, you're not missing much today :(

Cheers MrB... any further than that and I guess it buggers the warranty?

Who sold you it at Grantham buzz there ears thats not good enough. Leave it with them a day or two and work it in?

It can be done in less than a hour.

If grantham cant do it, have you tried ringing marshalls in Peterborough?

Grantham is 40 miles for me, so Peterborough would be a bit much at 75 miles.

The other option is bob minions in derby but don't know what their reputation is like

I wouldn't worry who does it OP to be honest.

All they do is check the tightness of various items and replace the Oil & filter, and Dick could do it so one assumes a Honda trained mechanic at a Main Stealers should not be taxed too much.

    Budget around £85-100 all in

Grantham are very busy, I've booked in to sort my oil leak next Tuesday, I thought a week was a long time. I took my first service to 800 miles, Honda were relaxed about it. The factory oil is designed to wear the engine in so you don't want to go too long.

I'll struggle to get out this weekend, then will get out on the 8th / 9th and want to go to the ashby Folville meet on the 11th.

So will just have to limit my miles, been in touch with them as theres no moving unless they get a cancelation :-(

Were the same booked solid for for the next 2 weeks at the moment which is good, for us. Come late September early October the off switch get's pressed and the business goes very quiet so we have to make the most of what has become such a very seasonal trade during the supposed Summer months.

Biking has become a luxury not a necessity so people only want the workshop when the weathers good, hardcore commuting is coming a thing of the past. Down here anyway. City based dealers may have a different demographic.

If the workshop time is booked how are you meant to find 1-1.5 hours I'd love to know.

Exactly, I'm not cursing them... Glad they are doing well when so many are not... If I was un-happy I'd just go elsewhere, I trust them and I want to keep giving them my business.

I'm the same, only so much work and so many meeting you can get int a day, despite clients wanting and expecting more.

i think i'll just spend the £100 getting a blag dealer stamp made and do it myself.
at least i'll know it's been done proper.

first few miles of running is the most important for an engine - why wait 600 miles?
got to be just a compromise that, it'd do more good changing the oil at 100 mile (or less)

GSP, Bob Minions are very highly thought of in the Derbyshire area. Again though, you'd probably struggle to get in anytime before two weeks plus.

Take the bike to dynotech eccosse if you want a proper service mate. They are in the Braehead industrial estate. Willy and Martin are really good guys, and seriously know they're stuff.

Either that or mickey oates. Forget victors. Robbing bar stewards!!

Yeah i know I'm not going to him so expensive, but does it not invalidate the warranty

any VAT registered garage can do the work as long as they stamp the book and you can provide an invoice upon request.

When i got my 2011 in February ( which had only 225 on the clock ) i rang Honda UK and they said get any franchised dealer to do it. I used the local Kawasaki dealer. Oil and filter ( used semi ) and a full nut and bolt check. Think it was £100...
