Hey guys my family and I are heading to the Glens of Antrim on Sat were there for a week so far the weather is to be shite all week But it may change and part of my family attending our holiday is my beloved Blade and I was hoping to ride the circuits while I am there but was needing some pointers! So any of my Ulster fellow forum members up for teaching a old dog some new tricks let me know
Unlucky Trev just a bit too early for the Ulster GP, I'm over in the province then. The circuits always worth a bimble round though, just so you can appreciate the skill levels when you see the road racing boys fly round it If you're in the Glens then pretty much every route takes you somewhere scenic and largely traffic free. The coast road is pretty enough but in holiday season it only takes one caravan heading from Larne to Portrush or similar and you're banjaxed. Make sure to go to Bregagh Road and get your own version of this! A run up through Armoy, ballymoney, and up to portstewart would let you ride the armoy and nw200 circuits, and treat yourself to fish and chips from the Harbour Chippy in Portstewart, always my fave!
Cheers Pete, yeah I know mate we're headin home a couple of days before the GP starts Didn't realise that when it was booked still I'm over in the Isle of Man for TT fortnight 2015 so can grumble the attachments you posted won't open mate was it maps? We're staying on the north east coast when we're there near Cushendall, really looking forward to visiting just hope the weather brightens up abit while we're there Thanks again Trev
It was a map of the UGP circuit with the road numbers, you can see it on the UGP website, and the other was a pic of the dark hedges at bregagh, if you've not been before google it, brilliant photo setting. Last time I was there there was a bloke taking glamour shots of a whole bevy of lasses. Got quite annoyed when none of the bikers who'd turned up would leave. This is my own pic from last year and I popped over to cushendall as well funny enough Hope you get decent weather for it.
Thanks again Pete for some reason I had got all you pics now cheers That's us had our first night in Cushendun and it's a stunning wee place the ride here was bitter sweet mostly bitter!!. The coastline run to Cairnryan was heavy rain but amazing rugged views of the sea but after the ferry the run up A2 to Cushendun was simply stunning but torrential rain and gales were to much to bare! I arrived at our apartments totally soaked thru!!.. Flash floods everywhere the locals were out taking pics of trees getting washed out to sea only 100 yard from our front door!.. The rain felt like I was getting hit with stones! The parts of the roads were a foot deep in water it was horrendous but all is calm today the sea is grey blue and not brown where the sea battled with the flood water rushing out river mouth! Ahh Mother Nature you've gotta love her
Looks like tomorrow might be the best day for any big runs Trev! Chippy tea! Just noticed the Saturday forecast, bloody hail in August!
Can I just say HOORAY!!! for WiFi as we had none on our little jaunt to Ulster and Mobile data was a hit or miss!! Here's a little update on how things went! Firstly it rained A LOT!! in fact our journey to the ferry was really bad but we arrived in Ireland and it was a whole new dimension! Feckin unreal there was land slides, flash floods I've never seen rain like it and I'm Scottish well you get the picture. Our dry day was Mon where we went to Belfast zoo (Family outing ) and it was a wasp fest!!.. there was more chance of your 6 numbers and the bonus ball coming up than a family getting out of there without anyone getting stung! There was victims everywhere(including my Wife) I seriously lost count of the poor sod tagged with those little yellow feckers and I don't mind saying I was bricking it throwing women and children at them on the way back to the car Cushendun was a cracking wee place to stay with secure underground parking for the Blade! where she only got out Wed to head to Ballymoney! I know it all sounds very negative but I had a great time ok the bike was redundant but we had road trips everyday in the car! here's some pics of our wee adventure And of course The Dark Hedges on Bergagh Roan near Stranocum (up the road) And down the road Alas no circuit runs were done but that means I'll have to return!!.. But I have to say the quality of the roads over there are brilliant no or very little pot holes mostly smooth and a joy to ride on well the north east part is! Also the total lack of police! I saw only one car and two bike all 7 days and that was in Belfast I didn't see any anywhere else apart from the small Orange Walk at 8.30 in the morning heading through Cushendall toward Larne for the ferry where the police closed the road for 10mins! Strange but true!
Glad you enjoyed it Trev, I almost thought you'd managed the impossible and found the dark hedges empty until I zoomed in a bit!
Hi Pete, cheers mate I'm definitely going back even for a day from Troon Yeah maybe I got the road to myself because I whipped out the baffle bounced her off the limiter for 5mins or so they all fecked off! Nah just kidding mate just good timing! when we arrived there was 4 cars parked up under the trees (inconsiderate gits) and another 3 or 4 parked up at the little lay by at the top of the road but they just all seem to go 5 mins after we got there only one family stayed with us! That's who you can see at the top of the road watching me parade up and down
Cheers Mike, feck Al dude I'm aiming for big Bruce's record funny enough in this month's Fastbikes mag Bruce is all over Ireland at Guinness Factory, Joey's Bar and Memorial! I only wish I had taken my Drift cam the A2 from Larne up the coast is the most breathtaking road I've ridden it hugs the sea with ancient ruins, high cliffs, large and small bays, rugged rocks and gorgeous wee villages! Every bend open out into and other different stunning picture of the coastline! Epic in the proper use of the word Anyhoo enough of me! How's your leg mate? How are you doin?
