Looks awesome. Although gutted it doesn't have a single sided swing arm. :(

Quote of the day for me "4Kg up and 50bhp down" I don't get the 899.... nope still don't get it..... and Mid, really, mid where....mid of what class.... I think they are milking it, I bet it don't cost much less to make but as its got "lesser" spec I.e mono LCD dash etc it feels lesser...think this time Id say its fallen a bit flat for me...

I think you would always be wishing you had it's big brother.

Maybe it will still have the supper sport feel to it, the 848 is such a great mid class bike but the 899 looks on paper to be a underpowered 1199 but I am only guessing, the 848 is nothing like a 1098 to ride I wonder if the 899 will still feel individual?

I'm Ducati fan through and through. I love smaller bikes and prefer 600's over litre bikes. For me the 848 was a perfect bike. This does nothing for me I'm afraid.

    I like it !!
Showas are probably better than the Ohlins model, the Blade with the Showas are so plush compared to what I have been used to. 148 hp is probably more than any of us can use on the road, mono dash, who really cares, it tells you how fast your going.
Swinging arm is the main change, I prefer single sided but that looks ok to me. If its £12500 compared to £16500 for the 1199 that is a hell of a difference and the 899 will be more useable 90% if the time.

I've just changed so that's me knackered for a while !!

Think I'd struggle to part with 12.5k for one tbh...

Think they've missed a trick with the colours too. See I'd happily have an 848, or a 899 if its the bike I wanted, not because its the cheaper 'baby brother' and I'd want one that isn't available colour wise in the 1199 - weird I know, but just me.

If the bike turns out to be an epic road bike and they did it in this. I'd be tempted to have a serious look at it ;)

Mid of the new class that is being born ............ maybe, lol, think the same could be said for the MV f3 800 .......… Why, they have a f3 675 and also the f4 1000's so why the 800

Then you've got Yamaha that have just brought out the MT-09, 850 triple, ( ok nothing like the other bikes mentioned ) but i reckon they have other plans for that engine, or may be I'm just living in dream world again, lol

As for the 899 i prefer the look with the double sided swing-arm, seem to make the bikes lines flow better, don't get why they haven't put the new type callipers on it thought

I would have to ride it, a few guys on the duke forums would troll the 848
owners saying we got them as we couldnt afford the big brother.
they obviously hadn't rode them back to back as I did, took a 1098 and 848
out on the same day but the 848 felt so much better even if it "only" had 130 ponies.
so I wont count this bike out just yet, shame about them going the 749/999 route
with the swingarm, hasn't the history of sales flops taught them anything lol

    Two words:

    Trackday. Beast.

(*if the gearbox is significantly better than the one they put in the 848)
