Rang the dealer that I got my bike from today to book its 4k service mainly to keep the warranty in check. They cant do it for almost a month. A bit too much of a wait me thinks. does everyone get their bike serviced at the end of the year, if I had it my way it would be done when it comes out of hibernation after the winter. It will get another oil change anyway. I rang Honda UK to check about the T & C's of the warranty and as long as they use genuine Honda parts all is ok. So I'm going to use my trusted local bike shop that has done all the major servicing on my bike for years. I've always been very happy with them. I know Honda uk have said it's ok but I wanted to ask if anyone has had any warranty issues after doing something similar? Ozz
Block Exemption "Prior to 2003 automobile owners in the EU region risk nullifying their vehicle warranty when the vehicles were serviced or repaired in workshops not belonging to the vehicle manufacturer or its dealers. This barrier was broken in October 2003, when the European Commission (EC) passed a law allowing vehicle owners the freedom of having their servicing and repairs done at their chosen workshop" So as long as your local bike shop use genuine gear and carry out the service to the manufactures specs it will not effect your warranty in the slightest. Although i have never needed a warranty claim, but i have had several recalls done on a previous bike without having a full dealer service history without any issues
No probs Chris, just make sure when you get your receipt it's itemised (ie) what work has been carried out to the bike including what parts have been changed and if possible the genuine part numbers that have been used. Just saves on any hassle if a warranty claim would arise
Why not give Arthur a shout, I am sure he will give you the heads up and if you give him the business you know it's going to be done as,or better than OE.
TBH you could use any old bike shop - if the Honda guys keep an eye on this forum warranty claims shouldn't be an issue? Mind you they seem to have gone deaf and blind about the ABS issues?
Hampshire, mate, not a huge schlepp at all. He'll spend the better part of the day on it and you'll know the work's been done proper.
The only problem I can see using Non Dealers is that the Dealers get first hand any pending issues & recalls that might be affecting the current model long before the guy around the corner. This is a real problem in the car/truck markets at the moment. We often see vehicles that come in having spent the first year being looked after by a non franchised garage, often the fault could have been avoided had the vehicle been seen by the dealer and updates in its ECU's regularly updated thus eliminating costly repairs to blown pistons, crank failures, blocked DPF's.... the list is endless. Just the other day I had a guy who had a bollo*ked dash, that'll be £1200 please but had you had the update last year it wouldn't have happened as the program has been modified and as your dash program is sooooooooooooo out of date we cant update it!
Well thats Mercs for you! charge for whatever and whenever eh! I've had cars and commercials from Merc and have always used main dealers for s&m (no not that sort of s&m!) I see where your coming from but with a bike its more personal - just read Carl's thread on Grantham Honda damaging his bike... I just logged into the 'Your Honda' section on the big H website and checked my VIN for recalls - nothing to report! Happy days - and I also used Grantham Honda - next time its round the corner to a respected local non franchise bike shop or big A from the forum?
I think I'll go with my local shop this time. But for the 8k service I'll look Arthur up.. might be time for some more mods too! Keeping an eye on the Honda site for recalls is a good idea too Mr H....
Thanks to you all for trusting a short bald bloke from Hants...lol GREAT to see people use the small guy, not just me...lol You know what I mean share the love with your local Tech, they often like me are only in the game for the love of it ** ** unless you get a right sh*tter like I had last week... (sorry lads with RS125.....lol *** I did tell him that too )
I support the local guy where possible Arthur - not only in my hobbies but in business too- it keeps things balanced - their not usually the cheapest but the service they give and knowing they are still there in times of need etc... I love it when I see business's closed on a Sunday - I like Sundays with my nearest and dearest. Back to topic people
