It also depends n wot ur actually doing with ur bike, r u commuting everyday? Doing track days only?? Ride on w.ends only?? Fair weather rider?? Serious long tours upto 2 - 3 weeks??

Then decide on wot kit us upto the job.

I slways find, wits good for 1 person aint necessarily good for another, go eith wot you like n wot ur budget is n of course get the best you can afford, as it may save ur life one day :)

I wear a agv ti tech lid
    Dainese leather jacket
    Kevlar jeans
    Knox knee pads
    Knox impact shorts
Richa gloves - cheap ones - must update these
    Tcx boots

    During winter or cold days

    Agv ti tech lid
2 piece hein gericke gortex suit ( nit shelltex its crap )
    Hein gericke gortex touring boots
    Dainese jerico gortex gloves

All this kit works for me
    :)

    Hi Dee,

Also no expert, but will give my 2 penny worth. And a lot of advice you'll get will be down to personal choice & off course money.

Don't know the lids you like really, but surprised no Shoei or Arai in your list. I'am sure i read somewhere that Shoei & Arai are the only lids that test their lids in a wind tunnel. Again just a personal thing I do like Shoei's - maybe the fit is just better for me heed.

With leather suits you'll need to look for decent thickness (most decent suits are 1.3-1.5mm thickness), ask whether they are double stitched & have the approved CE armour. Then it is pretty much down to personal choice & fit if you are looking to buy off the shelf. Also if you are not in too much of a rush you could strike a good deal at the coming bike shows (NEC one is very soon & London one is in Feb 2014). I got my 2 piece Furygan leathers at last years London show for a great discount as well as my lid, boots & gloves. I also have a 1 piece suit which was given to me - ten years old but good quality HG leathers. Depends on your budget etc - ideal world would be to have both 1 & 2 piece. If I went for a 1 piece now I would probably go for Arc-On leathers - was told by someone in the know that they are the only leathers he has seen that is triple stitched. Very good quality for the price but still north of £700. Of the ones you have mentioned Alpinestars are probably a good bet. And with the boots I can say I love my Alpinestars SM-X boots - I tried on loads at the bike show including Sidi, Dainese etc & found the Alpinestars by far the most comfortable.

Another question would be how much do you want to spend on your new equipment? With the bike show just around the corner you could pick up £1000 worth of gear for a hell of a lot less! Even by just searching the internet and fleabay!

I've known guys to save upto £400 buying at the shows etc

I ride all year around, as far as there ain't gonna be snow on street u will see me riding :p
I do ride to work to but have few leathers just for commuting.
When is nice whether I'm going at least 2-3 times in week for few hour spin.
I hope that with next year I will start doing track days... That maybe will stop me a little bit from racing on streets :p

And.. Hmm I think I would like to spend about 1k for new gear.. That's why I'm looking on discount stuff .. And yes I think I will be at NEC bike show.. And was ready to buy stuff there but when I saw this carbon lid for 180£ make me look for other websites :p
( still thinking about ordering it now ;p )

Go to the NEC bike show. The best advice is buy something that fist you best. And buy the best you can afford of the gear that fits the best.

Then look at what you prefer looks wise after the first 2 Above

    Hi Dee,

As I had a 21 year gap from biking I needed all new gear. So at this years London Excel show (next one Feb 2014) I spent the same as your 1K budget on 2 piece Furygan Leathers, Shoei XR1100 lid, Alpinestars SM-X boots & Furygan race gloves. I shall hope to go again in Feb 2014 - maybe Alpinestars Supertech R's and/or a textile jacket when its a bit colder.

    Hehe
Think that's what gonna happen :)
It would be great if I got sorted with my accident claim before show ... Then I would have a "bit" more money to spend .. ;)

For £1000 you could I reckon get summer and winter gear at the bike show with a good bit of haggling

Nice lids but I'm gonna hold out for an AGV Pista GP. Going to a while saving but I tried one on, a real jizz moment.
