its a good idea, I have the habit in traffic that when I shift down I slightly press the rear brake to warn drivers behind.
I think that's a complete waste of time to be honest, people behind you should be aware of you slowing down ahead of them!
Good idea. Every little helps, to coin a phrase. Those integrated braky/indicatory things have a pulsing option for the brake light which seems a cracking idea. Should be standard on bikes that feature.
Can't see this making one bit of difference to the amount of bikes that are rear ended! The problem is not that the bike does not warn the folk behind that it's slowing down the problem is that the folk behind don't look further than their own bonnet and don't pay attention to what's happening far enough up the road! I don't know how many times I have almost rear ended people on approach to a roundabout because I have already looked and seen that the road is clear but the vehicle in front left it till they were pretty much on the round about before looking right and come to a stop even though the road is clear! The true fact here is more and more vehicles on the road don't read the road they are driving on and in turn react to things that they really should have noticed long before and adjusted there speed/position to suit the situation before it escalates into a neer miss or an accident situation.
I have the pulsing light but I have to change it at mot time as its a failure but like you say it's so much safer
The problem with the pulse bit of those lights lam is that as far as the MOT checklist is concerned its a fail and deemed an elecrical fault.
Also while we're are on the MOT stuff there is a good chance this light itself would fail a UK mot as the tester could not test the functionality of the light during the test but as its fitted to the vehicle it has to function!
This product assumes everyone else knows what a flashing brake light means. If i see flashing brake lights it would not tell me that the person is "braking hard", its just a flashing light. Also a flashing brake light below your real brake light would detract from the actual brake light and someone may think "wtf is wrong with that guys brake light" Pointless IMO
Anything to show driver behind you are slowing down is a good idea. AS above I do dab the brakes as it says on the vid in the link the bikes do slow when going down the gears and no brake likes are sued so may result in car's now knowing that you are doing this. And why my Direct access instructor told me to dab the rear brake to show you are slowing. I wonder how legal this is in the UK. I have not read up all about it. Would this be legal in the UK? Anyone know
I think after someone following you for a couple of miles with that thing flashing would just draw attention from your rear brake light when you do actually stop! Also correct me if I'm wrong but aren't most bikers that are rear ended done so when they are stationary? Making this product useless
Looking at your rear end approach at a rate of knots, transfixed by this absurd light flashing, rather then actually applying the brakes themselves
Not legal at all Remal. That's why it's an mot fail. The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 The law states only a red light may be shown to the rear (except for a few exemptions) But section 13 goes on to state Lamps to show a steady light 13.—(1) Save as provided in paragraph (2), no vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which automatically emits a flashing light. (2) Paragraph (1) does not apply in respect of- (a) a direction indicator; (b) a headlamp fitted to an emergency vehicle; © a warning beacon or special warning lamp; (d) a lamp or illuminated sign fitted to a vehicle used for police purposes;
