Today around 18.30 on the A413 dual carriageway between Denham and Chalfont, just off the M25 J2, going the other way a Repsol Blade passed me and hoiked up a stand up wheelie at over 80mph. I raised my fist in the air as he went past, top riding fella! Hopefully if you are on this forum, THANKS, you made my day and I spent the next half an hour riding like a loon with a grin meeting at the back of my head. Still didn't make me any better at wheelies mind... :Banane56::Banane56::Banane55::Banane55::Banane56::Banane56:
Brilliant.. that's one thing I'd love to be able to do. Unfortunately my pooper tightens up when the front lifts up more than 4inches lol Carl
Ha ha, too right, must be wonderful to be able to ride like that. With children I'm probably too mortal these days to try. Any tips anyone? Any schools where you don't trash your own bike? I used to feck about when I was teenager on DT's (...during the war...) but I cannot translate it to the road, probably through fear... For me and my pride and joy that is...
Yes mate there is a wheelie school that teaches you on a modified bike untill you get the hang of it.. havent got time now but google it and your find it
Jimmyy fireblade teaches the clutch up method the wheelie school teaches you to power it up. see links below Why Jimmy Fireblade? or Welcome - The Wheelie School When you read there web sites they are both slating each other really so choice is yours which method you want to learn. Personally I think clutch up is a better skill to learn & would go to jimmy but upto you
Googled it, 'The Wheelie School' is in Bovingdon, which is only about 10 or so miles from where I live. I would prefer to clutch it up though, as that is what I have been doing for the last few years anyway, but this is right on my doorstep. Tell ya what, I'll go and write a review once I've been, ok?
I find it easier to clutch it up in 1st - then when ur at the balane point - change up makes for a more stable and controlled wheelie and then when you get used to it - you can do it with pillions they love it NOT
Dan There's no need to dip the clutch, the blade will wheelie in 1st and 2nd off the power alone. It will also wheelie in 3rd, however the blade does not have enough power to keep the front up for any serious distance. It is also easier to wheelie standing up rather than sitting down. I could wheelie my Ducati 1098R and Desmosedicic in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear, however they both had over 200bhp and substantially more torque than the blade!! Cheers Rich
Wheelie? Know what you mean Tony. The last time I attempted to bop a wheelie on purpose was in 1977 on my Suzuki K10 in my old school tennis courts (obviously to impress the ladies). All I got out of it was a Tungsten Steel pin in my left knee which I carry to this day. Funny how I recall that moment vividly whenever I pin the 'Blade on a rough surface and it turns into "Skippy"
Thats how i wheely on my CRF mate but on a sportsbike i learnt to wheely on my 600rr and had to clutch up so i think im stuck in that habbit. I have got it up by rolling on the power but it raises with the revs and i run out of gear, shut off and the front slams down . If im doing 40 - 50 mph in second and dip the clutch whilst accelerating it pops up instantly and i find it alot easier to control and bring it back down steady. I would love to master stand up wheelys but as you probably know standing up and dipping the clutch is sketchy as hell. to be honest i didnt even think about rolling on the power for a stand up , Im gonna give that some practise.
I like using the clutch 1) because you dont have to be doing 40+ to pull a wheelie (great for showing off in town and on shorter rods) 2) can keep it up longer as you dont use the revs to lift the wheel - so if you cn get the balance - on you sail but yeah would love to do stand up wheelies - just havent got the nerve or wallet to practise !!!
