My mate from work who rides an R6 and is all about showing off with wheelies everywhere and overtaking like a lunatic when on group rides (i know!!) has seen my trackday picks and is desperate to join the club. He is on a restricted license although the bike is not and gets full power, on paper anyway, in may so wants to book a trackday at cadwell. He's looking at the open pit lane one, how fast are the riders on these days?? I've already said if you've never done a trackday i'd suggest doing a novice session. Cheers
Open pit lanes are often practice days for the big boys mate. I'd defo try and get him to book into a novice session. He'll end up just being a hazard to the other riders on track if he doesn't get some experience first.
He sounds a bit of a bell end to be fair. Dangerous too. Christ. If he's a wildcard on the road, he'll come a cropper on track, but then again, he may do well. im with Colin on this.
If he rides like you say he prob. wont be around for long, so a track day may calm him on road which can only be a good thing. He should def. do a normal TD first in novice or perhaps inters - he sounds very confident / quick so could be a real nightmare in novice where some riders are really, really nervous
Send him out on the open day - he will come home with his tail between his legs and his ego well and truly bruised....
I should probably add that ive only been out with him once last year and ive never seen him ride like he says he can but remember some bad overtakes and shitty concept of group riding. bit of a boy racer really. reason i like riding with my elders is they tend to have much better judgement
There was a dude who used to come out with us. His road riding was utter shit, and would overtake us on the straights, and cut right infront, forcing us to slow down using the brakes on many occasions. Come the twisties, he was crap. After a few times doing it, and causing near misses and buzzing us, I had a quiet word and told him if he did it again, I'd rip his head off, so did a mate of mine. He was putting the group in danger all the time. anyway, he did one trackday, and thought he was Rossi. He cut us up even more, and used to stick his knee out on roads that where slightly curved. Nobody ever asks him anymore to join rideouts... He's really unliked. Shame, as I don't hate anyone, but I am very close to detesting him. He was dangerous and had one of those faces you would slap for fun...a reet bell end. so, a trackday never had the effect of making his road riding better, it made the utter shit, even shitter. The cunt looked like a 6ft 2 hamster too.
open pit days are for experienced rack riders really, the speeds at which he will get passed (and closeness) will give him a fright, but the bigger point is that he will be a massive danger to other riders. tell him to book a normal day,and if he's honest and tells them it's his first t/day,wont be allowed on the open pit anyway.
It's these sort of riders that give us a bad name. I know a few and all they talk about is burnouts, stoppies, wheelies, getting ya knee down and generally riding too fast all the time. Because I enjoy bikes doesn't mean this sort of stuff impresses me, infact it dang right cheeses me off. I'm no angel but I pick my times and feel no need to have to brag about it. I'd say sway him towards something like the California Superbike School, hopefully he'll learn something useful and maybe start growing some pubic hair
I figured as much and thank for the feedback guys always appreciated i think im getting through to hi, im a firm believer that everyone deserves their go and even tho some riders in my group yesterday were slow and clueless (dangerous at times) i still gave them their space and let them enjoy their day. tbh until yiu do yiur first day theres no way of tellin hiw quick youll be i had so much nerves and expected to be shit but ended up being one of the quicmest in the group. ive said if hes expecting to race people and cut their nose of diving up the inside of a bend then expect to get black flagged followed by getting knocked out
Seen this many time in the past. Once out on track, and everyone and their dog overtake him, one of two things will happen..... He will either realise he isn't Rossi and calm down and try and learn, or he will go faster in an attempt to keep up with the quicker guys and end up crashing. Open pit lane would be a waste of time for his first time out on track, and wouldn't be much fun for him or the others on track.
