Thought I'd have a nosey as to where the air filter was, see if its full of shit and check wether its a K&N before buying a new one.
Bare in mind I have no manual:( I hope I was digging in the right end of the bike). Took a wild guess and removed petrol tank cover thinking it would be in front of the filler cap.
:eek:shit the bed there's all this electromatrickery stuff in there. Underneath what looked like the ecu (BTW is that where the power comander 5 plugs in) there was a plastic case that resembled the shape of the K&N unit.......is that it........if so thats nice easy to get to:rolleyes:

What year blade do you have, if its 2008+ then you have to remove the fuel rail to get the top of the air box off, keep digging and you will find it.

You have to remove the tank cover then the petrol tank or at least lift one end up but remove fuel lines first which can be a bit tricky if you have big hands like me

You need to lift the tank completely underneath is that plastic case with the ECU on top, you need to unclip the ECU and remove a few screws then lift the top case to get to the filter itself. K&N filters are generally purple in colour. The Power commander does not plug into the ECU directly but the injectors/TPS or sub injector sub harness (depending on the PC version you buy)

And yes you need to do a lot just to get to the filter, but then all my previous bikes have been naked!

btw the manual is here http://1000rr.co.uk/maintenance/119.htm

Thanks again folks especially for the manual link;) Hope I can return the favour someday.
Trouble with this modern Honda marlarky is all the mountains of plastic shite on top of otherwise top bollox engineering.
My other bikes have thin air covering shiny metal and mountains of dubious engineering.........bonus!

Not sure fuel rail needs to be removed, few screws but Phantom's video is best help

Keep an eye out for dead birds and similar items when you remove the air filter...
