Original or Aftermarket ? been doing a search of old threads on the matter as I was thinking of fitting a BMC or K+N filter, came across a thread which said unless you actually go for a track specific filter, you may as well stay with the OEM as there is little to no gain in fitting a road specific aftermarket filter, your thoughts please ?
Performance wise track is better as they will improve air flow, but you will need to clean them much more more often. OEM is so good nowadays they will provide as good performance as road version of K&N BMS etc but as Peter said after market work out cheaper over the long run. BTW I chose BMC road version.
Just for sum1 whose abit thick, ie : ME R air filters cleaned with just an air line, giving them a good blow out???
No, because just blowing them out gets rid of just the loose dust and not the residual elements of diesel particulates and dirt that exists in the air. This is why you can wash the K&N filters to remove those elements.
They don't recomend airlines on K&N JMAMB. Buy a cleaning kit you get a gentle detergent to wash it out and an oil to spray one once it's thoroughly dried out. Nothing to stop you blowing the actual box out. Just make sure you cover the stacks to stop any crap going in there.
Thanks peeps Be a while until i need to clean mine yet only done 1500 miles but good to know the proper waY of doing stuff
Heres a vid showing cleaning an aftermarket air filter. Most aftermarket filters cost about the same as about two possibly 3 OEM type filters but once purchased they should last the life of the bike!
Never understood this 'fascination' with cleaning Air Filters? In the grand scheme of things they cost Fek all so why would you wanna fek about cleaning one? New one every time for me. Bought mine to ride not spend ages bathing a filter in the sink then drying it's little bum on the line then rubbing baby oil in to the fecker!
If anyone finds me cherishing my air filter Like in the Vid, you have my permission to shoot me in the head.
