I currently have the akra with cat and flapper(on the 08), how much gain would be had in cutting out and adding straight links. I has the PCIII and custom dyno map but seems to bog down a bit on small openings. Thanks,
Right, I have the akro and cat link pipe, I dissconected the Cable under the rear seat and rewound the pulley. I'm happy enough with it. I imagine you'll get a little more power if you remove the cat.
no i wa advised its not worth it on a 2008 + .. On a 04 to 07 it makes a difference but more hassle than its worth on the newer bikes . I probably will rip it all out over the winter but with a power commander and a yoshi r77 the bike runs lovely
I think you're talking about two different flappers? The OP has the Akra can which retains the exhaust flapper. Dan is talking about the intake flapper mod.
I would not bother disconnecting the flap in the akro . Its there for a reason . All it will do is cock up the Tuning of the can and probably make it a bit louder
Rip them flappers out get the gas axe on those exhaust flappers smash out the cats, loose the PAIR system get a PCV on it, map it, get what you paid for the full BHP...lol "thats what I does.." 1 BHP is 1BHP and I like to have them all
Ummm, , soyou got me thinking now dan, the reason I disconnected the cable was that's what most people do on the standard can, so that's what I did. I migh connect it back up just to see if there's any difference.
What's the point in buying that specific Akra with cat and flapper if you're just going to remove them?
Just a question for anyone really. If you're going to remove the cat and disable the flap, you'll probably need a new fuel map. Personally, I would sell the Akra for loads of money and buy the other Akra with no cat or flap for less money.
Yep that's exactly what I would of done jm1 too, I suppose there will always be people who don't want to (break the law) by removing cats and stuff hence the cat options there for them. Lol
Agree with you guys, if you have the road legal Akra with cat you have paid extra money for type approval, development, etc etc, also as said by the others the system has been developed to work with the stock bike no change elsewhere...simples.. The one thing with quality systems like Akra, Yosh, Leo, Arrow etc is they are Dyno developed systems produced and tested in house to work with said bike, unlike a fair few others on the market..no names given... Any other systems or changes should always be corrected with a PCV and custom map no matter what else you do..that said you can improve throttle response with the stock system with a PCV and custom map as Honda have to meet Euro emission laws when they produce the bike the one thing I will say is the 08+ blade is SOOO constant from bike to bike that the changes required in the closed loop area (the area at low throttle) are very small..
so am i loosing out on anything arthur by disconnecting the cable that goes to the control valve on my akro with cat? am just wondering if i should of connected it instead of leaving it off?
Maybe +/- one or two BHP at worst I have never fitted a Akra with cat and flapper but I would ask is it sprung loaded? If so make sure its sprung open?, as the other have said the only real advantage to leaving it diss con is low end noise levels, the flappers are not like EXUP valves but are only for EPA noise regs..
