I was just wondering from the feedback I have had on another thread. Has your bike ever been prevented from being nicked because it had an alarm fitted? I know it could be difficult to tell.

Ditto, just drain the bloody battery and waste a bucket load of your cash getting them bought and fitted.... pointless.... no bike of mine has ever had one, nor will it.

I had one fitted to my 2012 Blade for piece of mind really, and being offered a good deal on it. These days bikes seem to get lifted up and put into the back of a transit van - alarms don't stop anyone picking it up, nor does a disc lock. An alarm may stop the odd scumbag from trying to wheel it off down the road but I wouldn't rely on an alarm to prevent theft completely. I try to park in an area that would make life as difficult as possible for a thief, so hopefully the next bike is an easier target!

    Just my 2 pence worth

When fiddling about with insurance quotes recently, I found the alarm was the security device that made the biggest difference from the list: saved the most money on the quote, which might imply that insurance companies have some stats to back up that alarms work.

Not sure that's reliable though; the HISS was also listed and also reduced the quote, even though it comes a standard fitment!

But speaking from my own experience: yes they work, as long as you're in earshot.
    If not, then no, sadly.

waste of money yes, but it reduced my insurance premium by £280..

i wouldn't get one fitted to a bike, but if a bike comes with one fitted, then great..

Mines a right pain in the arse. Datatool (4?). Drains the battery and forever whistles down my earhole while cleaning the bike. But, as it was already fitted i'll be keeping it. Along with a disc lock with built in alarm and when its home, 2 chain n locks and 3 more locks on the steel shed.
Only thing is, by the time I unlocked/disarmed everything its time to put it all back...
