    Taking delivery of a 'blade in a couple of weeks time and I'm considering adding an alarm system to the bike ;

    Having not had a moderm Honda before I'm wondering if ;

    a) HISS is an immobiliser ... does this have a Thatcham rating ?
    b) Are the Honda Averto alarm systems generally rated as good ? Are they Thatcham cat 1
    c) or would you opt for a Datatool System 4 ?

    Many thanks in advance.

    I did not bother the hiss 2 immobiliser is cat 2, no one bothers if an alarm does go off anymore or they lift it into a soundproofed van, insurance wise it made no difference if I had it or not so personally I'd spend the money on mods :)

    I'm as Jamie, got the hiss, my insurance didn't make any difference and IMO if they want it they will have it regardless of alarm.... Spend money on chains and ground anchors!!

    Also, when touring the guys that have had alarms always seem to have problems with them??

    Carol Nash refused to insure me if I did not fit an alarm, so I moved to Express insurance that was also £250 less than Carol Nash.

    Same as Jamie and jimbo, I turned down a datatool 4(free) from the dealer, there not worth the bother mate, if you need one to get a big drop in your insurance premium then go ahead but remember they can go wrong and leave you stranded!The hiss is a good enough immobiliser IMO .

    Made no difference to my insurance quotes either . If it was to live outdoors i would get an alarm fitted to wake me up if some cheecky bugger had a go at taking it when i was asleep but mine is in an alarmed garage and when i take it out it doesnt leave my sight

    IMO alarms are pointless.

    Thanks for all the replies, I'll wait to see if the insurance company insists.

    No issues with no alarm on my blade. I was not asked about it with the insurance and as I don't leave it on the road's without me being close to it I could not see the point in having a £300 + alarm to save me £40 premium a year.

    So unless you are leaving it untended I would not bother unless the insurance needs it. I have it in a garage, alarmed, Datatag and fecking big almax chain and lock to try and deter thieves

    I had the Honda Averto alarm on my rr7 blade and had no problems with it at all, I now have a Datatool system 4 on my rra as it was fitted for free from the dealer and it has had to go back 3 times for the same fault.......biggest load of junk IMO. I hate it and more importantly, so do my neighbours!

    Hi Beef .Same as the others .Out of ten Bikes i have had to have 7alarms due to so called insurance. My last bike cost me £400.00 to have one fitted and as i only had the Bike 3 months prior to the time of exchange there is no part ex value in it so yet again it was another total loss.On this bike i told the existing insurance there was one fitted and once the renewal came up i swopped insurance and told them it had non fitted the bloke was fine with that and said it is only £40.00 more on the policy if you don't have one. But the biggest issue is when you have non you seem free from all the pissing about at the petrol station or moving the bike about.Like Remal my Garage is alarmed i have a ram raid post the big chain and my van in front of the door .Try not to bother .

    Strange ... I currently have an '04 R1 with a datatool system 3 and not had a single problem, OK, it's a pain in the A. Maybe with the system 4 they've tried to save money which has resulted in a poor product.

    So from what people have said; opt for none, unless insurance insists, in which case fit the Honda one and/or change insurers.

    The garage is alarmed at home so not too bother about when the blade is at home, at work it's in a secure basement ... it's just other times, which I think I'll arm myself with a heavy chain.

    seen that so many times!!! more often than not when you need to get somewhere and are in the rain for ages that you wouldnt ride in at home and you are in the middle of nowhere.... my pals fob was on his keys (like 90% of others no doubt)... and they get soaked and completely give up the ghost! lucky he had a spare with him but still a pain in the ass! had his removed when we got back.

    ill stick to no alarm and a big stick as security...

    My insurance company said I did not require an alarm, the Hiss2 was proven enough?? as stated previously by others no one takes notice of alarms, and is it just me, but when you go out your usually with a group or at least another person? I know the insurance companies don't look at it that way, but for personal piece of mind, knowing I've a couple of mates around where the bikes are parked suits me :)

    Ive had alarms on 2 of my previous bikes and sadly they both let me down bigtime, on my rrv blade the bloody immobiliser part of alarm would "kick in" whenever it felt like it .........sometimes mid corner ffs, i tell ya that was scary shit and i just never knew when it would happen. My other alarmed bike was a ZZR1100 which was a total pain in the ass to be honest, flat battery was the main one and also alarm would not disarm so was left stranded once or twice,

    So to carry on in the topic then my answer to having an alarm would be a big no no

    I have the Averto on my 010 blade with no issues at all (so far). Managed to get the dealer to fit it for free and it was also required for a big drop in insurance at the time.

    More for peace of mind than anything else on my part I suppose...
