These go on sale on Thursaday at Aldi if anyone is interested in a cheap torque wrench... My missus who is a Manager there pointed them out https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thursday-16-october/product-detail/ps/p/torque-wrench-set-1/
I'd pay a bit of money for a torque wrench Matt. I bought a cheaper one a few years ago and it failed the calibration test. Don't know if it was a one off or not. But paid for a decent one and passes every year.
good heads up but worth paying the little extra for good quality I feel Teng Torque - Search Results | Screwfix.com I have the halford pro 3/8" But bought the 1/2 and another 3/8" in teng at these prices
I bought a Lidl one last year. I believe someone carried out cal checks on Lidl, Aldi, Norbar and a couple of others. The Lidl and Aldi ones were the most accurate!!!
Any old shyte will pass a Cal Test when new, only quality gear will pass consistently after reasonable use. Buy the Teng one's, they are quality kit at very reasonable prices. I have 3 of the Tengs and they are top draw.
What do I know. Only been an engineer for 38 years and been working on road bike and race engines for the same amount of time. I give up. Just spend loads of money on stuff you don't need, so you can tell everybody you bought the so called best.
Thing is, Aldi and Lidl in Germany (where both are based) have a great reputation and much of their special stuff like this is Germany made with very good warranty cover etc. I bet they come with a 3 year warranty - will be good enough for many from here I am sure
In that case you'd have noticed that the Aldi unit appears to be a 3/4" unit and thus it's Torque range will be too high for most applications on a bike bar Axle nuts etc. Like the 'Top Quality' kit some portray it to be I see it lists nowt useful like it's size or Torque range? Still what do I know, however U could bet ya Pension you'd not find an Aldi Torque wrench in many Pro Garages throughout the UK
They are good enough for most of the people on here who use a torque wrench maybe once a month, if that.
i've just clicked the link on the aldi ones,i've actually got 1 of those, had about 6/7 yrs.doesn't get used a massive amount as it's torque ratings are a bit to big for the bike.and tbh no idea how accurate it is as i've never had it calibrated. Also got a 3/8 norbar which i use for the bike, again though,no idea how accurate it is now 3yrs on as never had it calibrated to see since buying it.
With the sizes of the supplied sockets i would assume these are aimed at checking wheel nuts on cars, maybe suitable for rear axle nut on a bike but everything else would require a 3/8 torque wrench.
I have a snap on digital 3/8 drive does 5.8 NM to 135nm so does all the range the snap on van has a tester fitted to van so test the torque every now and then . Need calibrating once on 2 years
Not saying you don't know your stuff and Aldi or lidl gear is not good. Anyway who said Teng in the best stuff and so call best? Everyone has their view and the BIL loves his Snap on Torque and has used it daily for his work but I'm not about to spend £300 on 1
