Due to not being able to ride my bike today due to my sore arse, by why of a consolation L suggested we go and look for the new leathers she has said she will buy me as part of my 50th birthday present. We went to Wheels in Peterborough to have a look at the R Tech suit but the sales guys said it was being discontinued and only odd sizes left to order. I tried on the Gp Pro suit instead. I am 12 stone and size 52 was a good fit once the struggle and fitting room hop around was done whilst getting it on. A 50 was impossible and 54 to baggy. They only had the horrible red, white and black in stock but can order another colour if required. I would most likely go for the mainly black or the black and white if I was to go ahead I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this suit? Plus and any ideas of how I could remove the “One Goal One Vision” logo on the back of the suit which I hate. On the mainly black suit the logo is in white and looks like its some kind of paint transfer. Could I try and pick it off then use a marker pen and colour over what won’t come off. Other than the logo I really like the suit but couldn’t live with such a poxy message on my back. Any bright ideas please ?
Do you do track days? Of not I would go for a two piece suit. I tried many 1 piece including this one, but went for a two piece in the end as its just easier when you stop on a ride. My pal bought a 1 piece and has regretted it ever since great for the track but not practical for your ride out with your mates when you stop for lunch!
Yep, got the same suit from Demon Tweeks a couple of months back in the "horrid red white and black" ...... Quite a snug fit but is so comfy when riding but need to get a back protector as the suit doesn't have one. You can definitely feel the quality and it's down to personal choice really regarding 1 or 2 piece suits, horses for courses etc...... Regarding the the logo on the the hump I wouldn't worry as its behind you and you can't see it but I suppose a permanent marker pen would do the job if it's a deciding factor .....
I personally wouldn't ride in a two peice since I bought my 1... Horses for courses but feels so much more comfortable IMO Lovely suit that freedom, agree with the slogan though, could get a leathers patch of eBay or something embroided over?
I have unmatched Dianese leathers at the moment jacket and trousers have a zip to put together but when zipped its not comfy and when not zipped you get a draughty gap at the back. Both are excellent but I think I would feel better in a one piece knowing I am properly protected. If I do buy a oner I will probably get L to put the trousers up for grabs on flea bay as they are immaculate, only about 500 miles and never worn without under skins. Keeping the jacket for the odd quick nip up the shops etc. I don’t do track days (but never say never) and mainly ride on my own so stops only tend to be short for a cuppa. Having said that when I ride out with Darek we always stop for longer periods to eat and I can understand that an all in one might be a bit of pain, given the crazy arm flailing break dance routine needed to flip the top off. But surly it would be easier with an under suit on?and when the suit is broken in a bit. Would you go with an integrated back protector of a chuck it on with straps jobby, either way I can imagine it would make getting the suit on even harder? I agree with Simon it is very snug but when I sat on a sports bike in the showroom it became very comfortable. When standing it was a little baggy at the back but I would have a back protector so that would take away so of the excess, which disappeared anyway when sitting on a bike etc. sorry about the comment regarding the red, white and black Simon, OMO and sure it looks great, just not for me. The logo on lower back bugs me and I would have to get rid of it somehow. I also think that Alpinestars tend to put far too much of the Astar logo all over the suit. The ones on the thighs looked like a stick on fabric so I am guessing I can just carefully peel them off if they get on my nerves. I am going to check out Dianese suit as well before we fork what is a quite a lot of money and I don’t want to regret it afterwards. Thanks for your help fella’s.
Hi freedom, check out the haunter suit by alpinestars it's a cracker it's in black and white and I'm a 56 and it fits lovely, do like my dainese two piece but feel properly protected with the one piece the perforations in the front also make it great when it's hot. ( not that we've seen much a that like!
I know what you mean with the break dance to get the suit on but I have been told that it will"give" with use and needs to be good close fitting to prevent movement should the worst happen, also you don't want a saggy arse look (sales assistants words not mine lol). I was looking at one of the back protectors that Alpinestars do that "clicks" into the suit and fastens around the waist with a strap, but although it's a level 2 protection ? .... it is still very slim so might not effect the getting on/off of the suit? I must admit they do seem to over do the logos but originally I was looking at the lower spec "carver" suit with the fluorescent yellow patches but the fit was totally different so payed the extra for the gp pro 1, having had black suits in the past I fancied the more colourful one but then will show up all the dead flies should we have a summer !! Suppose the bottom line is as you have mentioned its a hell of a lot of money and apart from the "fit" you have to be happy with the design/colours etc but there are so many available it's a case of try as many as you can ..... But the different models within a brand seem to have a different fit ??! Good luck!
One piece all the way, I'm not (too) interested in how my leathers are when off the bike, my one piece Arlen ness saved my arse once and were superb, hopefully I won't need them again but thats why I pay good cash for good kit. I do have a Dainase jacket and draggin jeans for 'pottering' about in as I don't have a car and a one piece isn't suitable for going shopping in.
Just spoken to fella at work on the phone and he was telling me RST stuff is really good and half the price of the "big name" suits. He has one and says it’s great. I can’t believe they can be much good when a full on one piece is the same price as a "big name" jacket. Anyone got any experience ?
RST as good as named branded? NO. They are good value yes but I've had a set few years back and no were near the quality of my Daniese leathers I have now. If you have the money then get the alpine stars. I would recommend looking at the Daniese stuff just got my first ever two piece and it's so comfortable. Doesn't feel like your wearing leathers!
One piece can be a pain but are my choice. However I wear my Rukka textiles when I'm going away for a few days as it's just more practical with our weather and saves the need to take waterproofs plus gives your more options i.e. draggin jeans but I'm digressing. RST are a good product for the money but if you can afford more have a shop around and try some suits on for size, some just might not fit you or be comfortable. We've sold a lot of RST and not had any returns to my knowledge.
I had a Dainese 2 piece, 2 racing jackets and the Pelle leather strides. They fell to bits. Never again. Still wear my Dainese Tourist Jacket though, as it makes the ladies wet* * i just made that bit up.
Gloves, 8 mths. £200. Jackets, less than a year...both zips. Trousers, zip went and stitching on the leg...less than a year.
Well my Daniese gloves have seen around 12000 miles and are still in one piece. I guess it's how you look after your kit. I clean and feed the leather once a month. Also depends on what suit or gloves you have.
Cleaned and fed with leather cleaner and nourished. Fastidiously. Dainese full metal racer gloves (£200), dainese Laguna seca 2 piece £750, dainese pele (£300). Not cheap gear, but fell to bits. I emailed dainese directly, but they where less than interested. One piece of gear going shabby I can take on the chin, but 3, never again.
I already said it once today, but it really does seem to be getting better and today. We went back to Wheels this afternoon for me to try on the GP Pro I piece suit again. I had noticed on there web site the other day that they had a special offer and reduced the price of the black one from £859 to £699 but only listed either very big or very small sizes. No reduction on the other colours. So in we bowled. They only had a small sizes in black but the full range in others so I tried on the red, white and black in size 52, not bad and the slight bagging at the back would be taken up with a back protector but as I have lost so much weight over the last few days I tried on the 50, it was a bit of struggle to get on and once done up I couldn’t breath, then the problems started, could I get the bloody thing off, I pulled, and pushed, swore, sweated, swore some more then thought bollocks nothing else for it I will have to get Ling to help me. No sign off her, she had got feed up and bogged off back to the car to read the paper. I struggled some more until I was knackered and sweating like a convict on death row. I had to wander down the stairs and ask the assistant to help. He pulled and pushed until eventually I got one shoulder out. The fella then says “I think the 52 would be a better size". No shit Sherlock.......anyway we got talking and I said that the web price for black was £699 would he do the same deal on the red, white and black. He wanders off to see the manager. Ling comes back, looks at the suit and says your not having that it looks horrible, what about the black one you were looking at, that looks much nicer. Assistant comes back and says OK same price but as the deal was only on the black for the stock we have due to a deal from Alpinestars don’t tell everyone. Told him I wasn’t going to take it as Ling doesn’t like it, can you order me a black 52 at the same price. Fella wanders off again to consult his boss again, comes back and says if we do it are you placing the order now. Yep, so job done black suit ordered and should arrive in the store by the end of next week. Result. Now the way its going today and with the exception of getting stuck in the size 50, a leg over has got to be on the cards tonight....
I really like the suit but just have to find a way to get rid of that stupid slogan in the middle of the back, carefully scratch it off and then black marker should do the trick. I will leave it for while and see if it still bothers me.
