Went to Knockhill on the blade again yesterday. Was an open pit-lane day so bit different from the Niall McKenzie days I've been doing lately. Go there early (I thought) to find the pit line garage rammed full of race bikes, with only me and Danny's bikes the only road ones at that time! Thought that this was going to be one of those shit days where I was going to be passed by all these racers and hold everyone up, but turned out to be a brilliant day! I put a new set of Pirelli Supercorsa's on the night before.. had never used that tyre before and was worried if the track was damp etc. Managed 40 miles on them after fitting, so ready for the track haha! Took it easy first couple of sessions (half the racers didn't though and we had 2 smashed bikes in the first 45 mins! - one of them one of my pals new to him R6 track bike) and gradually picked up the pace with the new tyres. All I can say is wow.. those tyres are amazing for track. My previous best lap at Knock hill was 1:04 in September last year. I was at Knockhill 4 weeks ago and couldn't break 1:07.. was really cold and the day ended up being cut short due to snow. Yesterday, managed a bunch of laps at the 1:00:03 range. Was passing all these race bikes all over the place, including one of my pals that races in the Hottrax pre-injection 600 series Managed to burn through another set of SBS Sintered pads - 2 track days (a month old) and they were down to the metal, unfortunately ended my day an hour early. The HM dash - wow. Managed to work out how to put it into Laptimer mode - just superb! took me a while to get the dash working properly on my bike, but it was amazing yesterday. Will post up a few clips from the shaky go pro footage shortly.
Good stuff mate looks like you enjoyed yourself Around a minute at Knockhill is pretty good going you should be happy at that As for supercorsas I would not go past them amazing tyre Hoping to get up soon myself haven't been since August last year I'll give you a shout
hello Dude, Nice to meet you yesterday, I was in the corner with the 2 Green ZX10R's Were you on the carbon blade with the underseat exhaust?? It looked lovely.
I had a redbull coloured blade as a Trackbike for 15 months before buying a kwak. Still post here very occasionally, usually only in the Trackday bit.
Ahh that make sense. I'm on the lookout for a track bike now. Can't make up my mind if I should buy a 600 or go for the thousand though
600 is an absolute hoot on track and much easier to learn to ride fast. If you plan on riding exclusively at knockhill though, you will get annoyed with 1000 cc bikes holding you up in the corners and fucking off on the straights.
thats what I'm thinking. Doubt that I have time to go south and play on all the tracks there.. will be knockers and a few trips abroad like we were talking about..
Well pads out tonight.. This is two track days at knockhill does for a brand new set of SBS sintered pads!
I don't use SBS anymore for the same reason. Brembo RC pads are good, Z04's are the daddies but very expensive. They do last longer though
Anyone ever actually used the Z04's? Found them on Ebay for M4 Brembo's for £169.. SBS Dual Carbon (that were next on my list) are £50.. surely they are not worth 3 times the price? I've just ordered race DOT 4 brake fluid as I suffered badly from brake fade this last time.. shouldnt have that with Brembo M4's, Braided lines and Brembo RCS MC. Guess the Z04's may help?
Have you looked at the dash logging data from any session? Any tips on getting the lap timer working did you have to ride around dropping the becons? Sounds like you were flying!!
Morning LC, yes the dash is epic for that. You just have to drop one marker and select "predictive lap timer" dash setting.. so it shows you what it thinks your lap will be at the same time as your best of your session.. its awesome. All you do it set a GPS marker once, you have to be doing over 8mph and press the dash to set so I did it in the pit lane with the gloves off
Haha the other smashed bike in the first session was me on the Ducati, I only smashed the screen and broke a lever mind so a quick fix and back out. I hit that bloody crater in the middle of the hairpin and the front went down.
well went and bought myself a track toy tonight.. been looking serious for one for the last few weeks, but after the track day last Friday, made up my mind that i really needed one. Was initially looking for a 600, but have managed to find an absolute peach of an Aprilla RSV-R Factory. Cant wait to pick her up! and the bonus is she has an MOT so a little daytime road fun as well Hilariously - I had ordered a Slipper clutch and SBS Dual carbon pads for taking my Blade back on the track! oh well, I'm sure the clutch will be good fun on the road as well
No mate it was the 848 in the Xerox colours. I felt a right mupet I knew that bump is there but its much worse than last season and really unsettled the bike when I hit it tipped over.
