I have a 2007 Honda CRV and I'm pretty sure the turbo has been on the way out for some time now as it whistles really loud on acceleration and deacceleration. Although there is no smoke on start up and seems to boost fine? The waste gate seems a tad loud ocasionally etc too. Honda told me 2 years ago that the turbo was over boosting so I should really get it replaced but I was unsure if they were having me on? Recently every now and then the car is giving the symptoms of clutch slip (revs shooting up) could this be turbo related or is this more cash I have to throw at the car!? Cheers Martin
I think you should throw cash at the car and get that fixed. I have heard of turbos starting to fail like this... it's usually the oil seals are leaking, which effectively is allowing the turbo to feed your engine its own oil, which it is then using to power itself. (Which would explain the revs shooting up, and the over-boosting) When it gets really bad, I've heard of cars sat there revving their tits off, usually until all the engine oil is expired... by which time there's not much engine left!!!
Thanks mate, thought I may have clutch on way out too lol Well I won't be driving for 8 weeks from a weeks time so a good time to get it in
It could be the exhaust is blowing or more likely the inlet pipe to the turbo is adrift if you can hear the whistle, that would give overboost as the mass air flow sensor wouldn't be getting a correct reading and altering the fuelling and boost levels to compensate. As for the second symptom..you could well have a slipping clutch if thats what your gut feeling tells you..
even if the clutch is coincidently going as well martin, they are a piece of piss to do, but beware you need to change the dual mass flywheel at same time. its the price of the parts that ramp it up. i did one about 4 months ago for my mate. i charged him £100 plus parts
Cheers guys, it only seems to do the clutch slip thing every so often only twice in a fortnight so maybe should sort turbo and see if that sorts it first
Get the turbo done mate - my wife's merc went big style on motorway a couple of months ago quoted £4500 for recon engine but managed to get it done for £2500 but it was still a lot of hassle sorting out after the event ps we only bought her car for £4500
