any home DIY'er?

Have to replace the kitchen sink.
Would like to get a slightly larger on so..

What is the best way and tool to enlarge the existin cut out.

I have electric drill & jigsaw in addition to a selection of tools

That should be all you'll need

 

Remove the old sink.
Tape along the lines you want to cut.
Drill at the corners (if there are any) where you want to cut.
Use a reverse jigsaw blade (linked).
Seal the wood with silicone.

I may have done this a few times (Although Hobs, not sinks).

sound like I’ve got the tools now have to look for the missing skill

 

On a good day they come with a cutout template to put on your worktop

My next step is to take out the old one (would you beleive it, the dishwasher has to come out first) To see what I am in for.

 

Yes you will have to if the previous sink was held in with clips. 99% of the time I just bed new sinks down on silicone. Most sit flat but if not you can weigh them down overnight. Also seal the chipboard cut out with silicone to seal it.

 

Well I have now bitten the bullet. The cut out need to be slightly enlarged. I will know exactly whne the new sink arrives.
First major issue, the dishwasher is stuck and no amount of force from my lightweight body makes any impression. As half of the cut out is above it, it will be a tricky job!
I think the house has shrunk since the appliance was fitted

 

Is it stuck at the top and bottom, or the sides?
If it's the top and bottom then you need to make sure the feet are wound up.

 

Plenty of clearance top and bottom, the adjustable feet all ok.
It is the sides like a seized brake disk!
I remember the fitter took the side panel off at the time so that it would fit.
Just have to cover the top properly when cutting the worktop. I may have to omit a couple of the retaining clips as it is not possible to tighten them

 

The cabinets and door absorb moisture from the dishwasher, hence could be tight. I always leave 2mm extra to compensate for this. If you can fit the sink without taking it out then why not.
