Just asking out of interest really. Mainly for the usd forks on my r6. Just had a ktec 20mm cartridge kit fitted and want to know which bits have been taken out and replaced. What is normally meant by fork internals? Ive been sent back two valves maybe 80mm long guess they are the stock parts?

When they did my r1 I got back 2 springs and two valves, which is internals, that was with ktec

But I had the valves and springs changed not cartridge kit fitted :)

Can I weigh in here tyke?

This is the Broken down cartridge tube found inside the USD forks!

Now if you just had a cartridge kit fitted the whole thing is swapped out an replaced with another unit!

If you had a piston kit fitted which is what I was fitting in the above picture which is the small units that can be seen next to the rod, ohlins units fitted onto the rod and old showa units lyin next to it.
The actual OEM cartridge tube is reused for the upgraded piston kits!

Hope that clears up any confusion. :)

    Jamie,

You really should have got back two large springs and four pistons (valves or internals all meaning same thing).

I also swapped out springs to my weight as can be seen in the pic above, new spring still in the blue wrapper in top right old spring standing upright.

The pistons should be a pair per fork, one rebound piston and one compression piston.

The pistons can also be seen in the above pic, the rebound is the one that attached to the bottom of the thick rod. The compression piston is attached to the small unit with the bolt attached next to the thick rod.

Both the ohlins springs I used above weigh about the same as one OEM spring! That's the first thing I noticed when picking them up.

    Mark,

This pic shows the cartridge built up again with the new ohlins pistons inside, the old pistons are lying just above the cartridge.

A cartridge kit will come with upgraded internals already inside so it's just a drop in unit rather than having to break open the OEM cartridge and change the pistons or internals over!

You will definitely feel a difference next time your out on the bike I'm sure, both upgrades technically do the same thing no matter if it's a cartridge upgrade or just a piston kit upgrade as they both utilise the same upgraded pistons!

The cartridge is more expensive but is also faster to swap out!

Mine was a pretty dark metallic colour too! I'm sure I was the first one inside the forks from new an bikes done 12k!

manufacturers are now saying 7.5k should be the mileage for getting fork oil changed if bike is road going only.

For a race bike this should be more frequent!

How much did they charge you for the work on the forks? Did you get the shocker done aswell. Was thinking of getting mine done at parkitt.

Mate this is what you have had [IMG]

Full cartridge would have a different fork cap start getting into ££££££ then . I had the same as you done with springs and full fork and shock service
