Has anyone had a custom knee brace made? As most of you know I have is issues with most of my bones but the main problem being my knee, after my latest insistent I have been waring a massive hinged leg brace and although it's a pain In the arse I have noticed even with the discomfort of the current injury my knee is a lot more stable. It's got me thinking that I could do with this on a more perm basis if it was smaller lighter and better fitting. The downside is they are seriously expensive and it's money we can't really afford. But I have sat down with the misses and we agree that its worth a little bit of debt if it improves our lives and what I can do with the kids. So if anyone has any experience, advice etc please get in touch Problems I have with the current one, bulky, full leg length, hard to get under trousers, heavy, slips down throughout day, restricts bend due to straps etc. Cheers
I had one made when i broke my knee around 6 yrs ago. I took the full cast off too soon and fekked it up even more.... A friend who was working in Chester Hospital made me one for free as she was messing about with new braces etc... did the trick as i got told i'd walk with a limp without surgery yada yada, signed myself out before the op as i hate hospitals etc..never to return. The brace worked for me, never had an op, the bones knitted together properly, and my legs are both the same height...LOL. And, the comfort was amazing.... But, the ligaments took ages to sort out. Maybe speak to an NHS physio to see if they can make you one up?? I threw mine out a few years ago, otherwise you could have had it.
Spoke to the physio today they said would be worth waring one for life basically and spending 600- 1k to get one made, recommended spending the extra on carbon and Ti to keep the weight down so it's more comfortable. Hoping I could be able to get back to the gym with one too and try shave the 5 stone I gained since the accident
To be fair, mine was a heath robinson affair, with titanium , velcro and plastic, but it definitely did the trick. Maybe speak to a physio student too??? It may be worth registering here, and saving you a packet?? http://www.physiowizz.co.uk/student-room/
No I don't hang around with you just because you look like Frankenstein however it does get me more attention from the ladies
I've got one you can borrow mate. It has steel hinges under a blue textile elasticated and velcro cover. Very comfortable, but hard to get off after your leg has been sweating a bit.
