I don't know about you but I think Arai helmets are getting quite expensive these days compared to the likes of HJC. £300 difference between race replicas
I to have an HJC r-pa 10 its brill no wind noise at all and the fit is great i have tried many lids over the years and cannot see why arai etc are some much more in price
I think like many products, you pay more for the 'name'. Having said that, I have never had a bad Arai or Shoei, but I never buy race reps, just the plain ones which keeps the price down. I can't get a comfortable fit with HJC helmets, must be my head shape. Like my new Schuberth very much, although it is perhaps more of a touring helmet but it is fine at high speed.
As has been said already, Arai are expensive but i think you get what you pay for, i have 2 Arai, 1 AGV and an HJC FS 10 Carbon which i rotate so as not to "wear" them out so to speak. The Arai are better quality all round and better fit and also seem to last better regarding internals/visors etc, I have always liked Shoei helmets but they just dont fit my head tho i have tried on numerous models i just cannot get one that is a first time "yesssss" like i can with an Arai
Only really tried Caberg and Arai. First time I put on an Arai it was like 'ooohhh yeah' .Never been temped to buy another brand, you have trust in the name and it fits perfectly. From what I noticed is that only the top end Arai have really increased, the rest previously seen as more 'budget' brand have gone up.
sorry i dont think you get what you pay for with helmets .. how much is actually paid for the helmet ,and how much are you paying to put that make of helmet onto famous riders heads and pay for adverts in every bike mag? the nexx helmets are a case in point .. no major sponsorship ... mainly recommendations from people that have them .. and you can get a carbon one for under £300 and they are making a profit on that. isnt the carbon arai £2000 or something daft like that?
i paid 450 quid for my arai and to say its noisy is an understatement yes it feels well built(heavy) and it has lasted, tinted visor is between 60-70 quid when most other brands are 30-40 so wouldnt even think about arai again when it comes to looking for a new one
I can get a HJC RPHA 10 for £164 free delivery. Not a race rep though but am I bovvered? Not really. I do have an Arai rx7gp but it is noisy and heavy. The HJC rpha is really light. I am not desperate for a new helmet as the Arai is only a couple of years old. Admittedly they are selling the HJC 10s cheap because there is a new model a Rpha 10 plus, not sure of the differences but £164 has gotta be a bargain.
When you can buy a carbon lid for £300 with the same or higher safety rating that looks good, it makes you wonder why you'd go for a £600 Arai. In case I hadn't mentioned it before: I love my Nexx
I've never met an Arai helmet that fits... Shoei are very comfortable for me (XXL), but I'd like something a bit quieter than the RAID-II... Active Damping would be nice...
I bought a new helmet yesterday, an Arai! Its my fourth Arai, yes the list price is expensive, but I have never paid list price, there always seems to be deals around. The one I bought yesterday (Chaser V) was £245 reduced from about £460. Cheers, Ian.
The difference between good and bad quality isn't always shown in the price. I ride a Honda because its good quality, I don't ride a cheep Chinese rip off because it would be shite. I also take care of my head.
I paid 399 GBP for a new Nicky Hayden Arai rx7gp Helmet and 255 GBP for a new Arai rx7gp ( special offer ). You are right, if you have to pay the full amount, it's expensive.
If a company called MT can shift massive volume in Spain and produce a tasty looking (not seen it in the flesh) carbon lid for £200 and Nexx (Portuguese) can sell their carbon for £300...
Many top range lids were about £500 even 10 years ago but the last year or 2 have risen up to £800 with the new range topping Dainese and £700 for the Arai Race reps. In the end people will pay it for them and others will wait until the next season and get them cheap. I've not paid more than about £400 and that was a Arai that was excellent and I would pay that again. Mainly as it saved my head when I hit the ground almost running. No fun but saved my head
