I was thinking of going to the Moto GP at Assen next year and wondered if anyone on here had been before . I will be flying from Edinburgh/Glasgow probably into Schiphol . How easy is it/distance to get from here to Assen via public transport ? How easy is it to get to the circuit once in the city of Assen via public transport ? Thanks in advance .
Went two years ago - what you will remember of it will be the best weekend of your life lol it's the biggest PARTY... talking tens of thousands of people in about 5 squares with diff themed bands on. We rode and camped near the track (20 mins walk) the track from memory is about 4 miles from the town centre - and they run busses all the time to the track
As jimbo says! Its totally insane. Excellent venue great people and the ride when you leave the circuit is just mental. People line the roads and bridges for absolute miles. Fantastic!
For 30 years I took a crowd of about 20 bikes to the Dutch GP at Assen, and it was always the highlight of the year, leave early on Thursday morning, across to Calais, arrive at the Hotel in Amsterdam late Thursday afternoon, Friday at leisure, and the Saturday morning early departure for the 125 miles from Amsterdam to Assen and then home Sunday. I cannot think of any other country where the posh hotels open up early on a Saturday morning to provide Ham and eggs and coffee to all the bikers heading north and as mentioned, the ride out of the circuit at the end of the days racing has to be seen to be believed. I really hope that I get to the point soon where I can ride some serious miles in one hit again, because the last weekend in June will be the first event penciled into my diary. Anyway, to answer the original question, public transport in Holland is very good, and Gronigen which is the nearest town to Assen and if memory serves there is a shuttle service or something like that from Gronigen to the circuit. If I remember correctly you can get a train into the town of Drenthe which is the town of Assen and from there you can walk to the circuit quite easily. But you cannot beat going on the bike Do it at least once, you won't regret it
I am going to the BSB Assen in September; staying in Gronigen. It won't be on the same scale as the GP or WSB, but looking forward to it all the same.
