Does anybody know if you have to pay import duty from Australia like you do with the US ? I m wondering if we have a trade agreement between commonwealth countries or something ?
From HMR&C's website: Goods imported to the UK from outside the EU are subject to Import VAT, unless they are brought in as part of your duty free allowances. HM Revenue & Customs: Customs Duty, Excise Duty and Import VAT: introduction
Cheers guys I suspected that would be the case unfortunately guess I was wishful thinking. From other peoples experience If I m bringing in goods to the value of 500 AUD or £340 including the carriage what should I expect to pay in UK duty ? If it makes any difference the item is a Carbon Fibre Airbox.
A shame HMRC don't see it as a part of the UK as the queen is still the head. and they are all our ex pensioner's
I pretty sure you don't get charged for the carriage, so the Import Tax will only be on the item's value. Also if it's passing through the Royal Mail/Parcel Force's hand then they add on a handling charge for paying the Tax upfront for you (Cheeky F***er's).
Plan on it costing about 25% more of the total value. This covers import duty and the handling fee. Once your parcel clears customs you will either receive a phone call or email for you to make your payment and only then your parcel will be sent to you.
They do actually charge you on the carriage aswell, it's the total price of he item including carriage that's a rip off ain't it
