Had a pair of these fitted on my 04RR Blade and they are a lot different to the Mezeler Rennsports that I was running before. I uswed to get about 2k miles from a rear Metzler and about 5k miles from the front. Just scrubbed these Avons in and there is so much tread on these things they should last about 8k each tyre! Handling is a bit different, I'm by no means a pro at riding (I can't even get my knee down yet) but the Metzler were obviously really soft compound that stuck to the road like the proverbial, the Avons are harder and although quick to turn in I find them a bit on/off if that makes sense? The Metzlers were very linear in their grip and the Avons seem to grip in stages. It could be just the tyres being new and not fully scrubbed in properly. All in all I'm happy, they should last a while and keep me the right side up. £260.00 fitted.
Never used Avons before and I doubt I will. A mate went out at Cookstown Road Race this year on a set of their race tyres. Practice night, first lap, first corner and down he went. Wasn't pushing or trying, just turned left and ended up on his hole. Enough to put me, and keep me off Avon's. I've always stuck with Metzler/Pirelli until I started using Bridgestone R10's and I'll not put any other tyres on the bike now. I used to commute on the bike and put on some Pirelli Angels and I think I'd have got more feedback if theywere made from wood and not rubber.
Wow hope he was okay? Maybe his tyres were very cold and didn't have enough heat in them? I agree about the Mezlers, very good tyres and super sticky but rplacing the rear three times a year was hurting my beer fund. I guess tyre brand is a very subjective topic and everybody has their favourites. I guess what works for one person may not for another. Hopefully the Avons will be okay for me, a friend has been using them on his R6 for a couple of years and has no issues. He does corner like a wuss though ;-)
