I suspect the "rubber cush ring" is bollocked and maybe the bearings are worn.

Just wondering why you think the bearings are gone, is it noisy?
The gear backlash is adjustable and mine was way out on my bike from new. Once adjusted it quietened down a lot.. jast sayin....

I bought the Blade 3 years ago cheap, I suspect the owner moved it on due to it being noisy when hot , I was convinced it needed the Balance shaft adjusting so once home I set about adjusting it. The noise went but I had to turn the adjuster more than 180 deg which is wrong!! Compared to other 06 Blades mine has always vibrated more than the others at 5-5500rpm. Anyway...3 years on it now vibrates like hell at 5-5500rpm and when really hot the shaft is noisy at idle. I,ve had several second opinions by engine builders and the like and all concor it sounds like the Balance shaft. I just wish there was a way of checking the alignment mark in relation to the crank without having to pull the engine out!

Sound like the gear has somehow gone out of alignment. What a PITA. Maybe the rubber ring as you say
IIRC I had to turn mine a fair bit to make it quieten down.
How many Kms/miles? is this a common problem with these engines, I have not heard of it before?
I found running a 10w50 in summer helps with the noise but that wont help you by the sound of it.
I would like to hear the outcome of this please.

Edit I just wonder if you overtensioned it initially which would load up the rubber bush and maybe lead to failure later?

    Not a chance fella................
I,ve been in the Trade more years than I would like to remember and there was 1 ex BSB bike builder, 1 Engine builder and 1 ex Honda Trained mechanic , and little ol me! and we all took turns adjusting it.

You seemed to have problems from the onset Aitch. Have not taken a litre blade apart coz they were so reliable in the engine dept: If the time came I would have removed that balance shaft from mine with the view of increasing the engine 's revabilty for a bigger gain than a the little from the shaft . Keep us posted very interested.
