rebuild my forks awhile ago but haven't been out since I've done it for numerous reasons. I've bought the wife a new bike and I've been out with her. I've been struggling with the front end. It felt horrible. It felt hard. I could feel every bump and my arms ache. So today I've taken a look. I've got about 15-20 of sticksion. Ive slid the dust seals down and used some fork oil to try and reduce it. Its helped a little but still have an issue. Looks like I need to strip the forks again. I used honda seals and a bush kit from wemoto. Not problems when I built them. And used grease when i fitted the seals. I've still got the old bushes but I'm surprised its happening.
Sorry. 15-20mm I've stripped the forks this morning.and considering the oil has only been in about 200miles it was very dirty. I fitted new bushes from wemoto when I did the forks. I think they have caused it...
I think he is talking about stiction i.e. there is excessive initial resistance to the forks moving but when they start moving they do so smoothly.
New seals from Ktech as my hinda dealer is Gash. Fitted the original bushes and all is right with the world again. I have forks that slide .
Any chance you had an airlock when you rebuilt them and did not get all the oil back down through the forks, as they were so hard ? Always careful to make sure I pump all the oil through before refitting the top caps.
The only sign was the grey in the oil Nothing obvious on the bushes. But there ok now so all good. I fitted a later rear shock at the same time so I need to have a play with the settings.
sometimes I give the stantions a polish with silicone spray before a ride, This does make a noticeable difference on bumpy roads I just spray a bit on a cloth then polish the forks, Keep away from the brakes
