i have a 2004 blade which i have owned for over 5 years. I love its looks the way it handles i'm starting to think may be its time to raise the bars for a more relaxed ride i no i could sell it and buy a cruiser but i hate the look of them or i could buy a sorts tourer but i hate boxes fitted to bikes. So i'm going to stick with what i have got so my question is has any body used or seen fitted Heli bars or Gilles Variobar if so which ones fit and look the best
Best thing you can do for a more comfortable riding position. :: Performance VarioBar Adjustable Handlebars Inc Riser Extension - Black (Raises Bars by 40mm) from our extensive line of Rearsets & Handlebars Gilles Rearsets & Handlebars Parts for 2004 HONDA CBR 1000 Fireblade 0405 bikes. Suppliers of Specialist £330 for the Kit though + Fitting is the downside, but far cheaper than replacing for a Sports Tourer with far less style!
Ditto the above, i have sat on the said bike (when at KAIS having its suspension set up), it is really nice, looks stock but feels so nice.... so much so, i got KAIS to fit the Gilles Variobars to my 954 ! Again, adds a nice bit of comfort but without making it look like a streetfighter, i also have an Ohlins rear shock and i have had the bike slightly lowered (a short arse), overall i like the idea of turning a sportsbike into a hybrid-sportstourer, the other way around does not really work when turning a sportstourer into a sort of sportsbike, you will always have the initial weight of the bike which you can not get away from, my bike when new was 163kg (dry), there is just no substitute for that kind of dry weight.
I have some Hellibars on my old RRX and also lowered the pegs by fitting a link to the top support, it made it into a great sports tourer and can be ridden all day, in fact just got back from a 3200 mike trip to the Alps and it was again brill. Am looking at doing the same with my 08. Go for it, a small change in bar/peg position makes a huge difference
the later 2007 blades have different clip ons that are like the new model blade. they are made with a raised part,go look at one to see the difference in height , it may be a cheaper viable option to get some later clip ons from ebay.
My bike came with Helibars; I sold them but took some pics to compare. The right is a Helibars, the left is standard.
Yep, very similar to my Gilles Variobars, just makes them a little bit higher and a little bit back towards the rider, subtle, but a real difference. I think that given how the biker community is getting older i can see this sort of thing carrying on into the future, no all older bikers wants a C90 Cub or a sit up and beg 125 !
Interesting. Now on my list of mods for the 929, three hours on motorways commuting is starting to take its toll, especially as I've now turned 40.
Much as I like the Guy's at KAIS, you'd do better getting them fitted closer to home. It's not a difficult job, any local Bike dealer can do it if you don't want to tackle it yer self.
