How can you tell if it is a battery fault or regulator. Had a new Alternator and flywheel fitted to rr5. Four weeks later bike won't start. I charged the battery, started the bike and checked voltage with a meter - 14.2V @2000rpm. Left the bike for 2 days, battery flat, wont start. Recharged last night, reading 12.7V. Turned on lights and meter showed power dropping from 12.7 to 12.4. This morning reading 12.3V. Is the battery dead or could it be something else.

    Thanks guys

Put volt meter across battery, try the starter. If it drops below 6 or 7 volts battery has had it. Now on 3rd battery in 6 years, 30k miles.

I have an rr5 and had to have a new alternator fitted 2 months outside the warranty. It seems it's quite a common fault with this model but Honda won't admit to it.

sounds like your battery isn't holding charge,if it's showing 14v on tickover then reg is ok.

if it does turn out to be your reg/rectifier,i have 1 for sale.(but does sound more like bttery fault)

Thanks. I have a Yuasa battery being delivered today so will try that and let you know. At least I was lucky and had a new alternator and flywheel replaced by Honda last month on an extended warranty.

Sounds like one of two things, either the batts not holding its charge or something's draining it. Try switching the bike off and measure the current draw from the battery, dependent upon whether you have an alarm etc will depend on what three should be.
