I have a 2004 blade that the battery slowly go's flat even if i am using the bike i have replaced the battery and it seamed the problem was sorted having used the bike every day for the last 2 weeks but to day flat battery any one have any idea's
have your battery checked first. If thtas ok It sounds like something is draining the battery, disconnect your battery and put amp meter "in line" to see what the current draw is
Have you charged the battery on an optimate or similar might sort it out if not. How many miles do you ride it for? Maybe you are not doing enough miles to charge it back up? What voltage is it reading with the engine revved to say 5k should read about 14V and go back down when idling if the charging system is working. Can check the current being drawn as above to see if there is a drain from anything like an alarm. Might have a dodgy rectifier or the connections to the rectifier. Have a look and clean them up if needed.
I have charged the battery with an optimate and all ok i have checked the charge rate which is 14.2 at 3k and i have bean doing about 30 miles or so
A lot of 04 Blades had problems with the alternator stator/rotor gap being too small. Ask dealer for details?
Probably ACM generator fault, very common fault, still under warranty from Honda, Just. Measure all 3 of your coils, prob 1 has gone. Nik
yep your right did a check on the generator and one coil gone removed the generator cover to find one burnt out
Get it fixed at Honda quick smart. The warranty ends this year (7 years from date of purchase for acm faults I think)
finally fixed new stater and rotor now charging at 14.2 also did an oil and filter change at the same time
hey Megawatt... i can agree with you there...I had the exact same issue..MB has also seen this many times..
Just registered and found this thread, my RR4 is doing the same, new battery yesterday, 40 mile ride to work and all was fine, when i came to go home, it was flat! got it bumped and got home but still flat! does this sound like the stator? and if so, how much is the parts?
that is what happened to mine i removed the left hand lower fairing then you can get at the stater wiring plug with a volt meter you can test the stater at the plug three yellow wires check each one with engine running all three reedings should be the same if not stater failure. If you remove the three bolts that hold the stater cover you can look at the stater you will probable find one winding is black (stater fitted to back of cover) I got the part for mine from david silver spares cost £250.00 flywheel and stater matched par and fitted it my self i was given a price of £798.58 + fitting at my honda dealer (some people say that honda know there is a problem and cover it even at this age i phoned honda UK and they told me no)
this happened to my 04 blade at the weekend ... big cloud of white smoke from around the fairing ... seems a spark from the failed stator caused the oil vapours inside the crank case to explode.... blowing out the gasket on the valve cover (now have a nice little oil leak to go with my dead battery) my local dealer is going to put a claim into honda for me tomorrow once I provide vin numbers etc (will take 3 weeks for honda to accept or reject the claim) if they reject the claim i'll just get the parts and fix myself reading around the subject it seems a wise move to replace the rectifier with a mosfet based one as they produce less heat
Why on earth will it take 3 weeks for the claim to be reviewed and actioned. The claim will go to SP (special permission) status meaning the technical team will need to review it and the claim will be processed in no longer than 24 -48 hours. I have never had to wait 3 weeks to receive a response from the warranty department. You dealer should also contact Honda tech to brief them on the fault/complaint and they will be able to tell them there and then if they are going to honour the claim with you standing at the service desk with the dealer. Just don't go between 13:00 - 14:00, Honda close for lunch !
was just going by what the dealer told me on the phone had a text from the dealer today honda have said the claim is outside the extended warrant so my choices are : 1 - new stator and flywheel from a later bike (06-07) - guessing that be £250 from dave silver spares (as per above post) 2 - or just the stator from wemoto ( Honda CBR 1000 RR4/RR5 Fireblade (SC57) 04-05 Generator - Stator - by Electrex Parts at Wemoto - The UK's No.1 On-Line Motorcycle Parts Retailer ) and a rocker cover gasket Honda CBR 1000 RR4/RR5 Fireblade (SC57) 04-05 Valve - Rocker Cover Gasket/Seal Parts at Wemoto - The UK's No.1 On-Line Motorcycle Parts Retailer i'm tempted to replace the shunt Rectifier with a mosfet based one.. as they run cooler so less likely to burn out the stator through heat any comments from those knowledgeable about such things ?
Bloody hell fire.... just wandering throught the forum and found this.... that is bloody daylight robberty from Honda. I had never even heard of this problem.
