Battery voltage issues

    Hi guys!

    I have a voltage/battery question I hope someone could help me with figuring out as I am pretty uneducated on the subject. I've seen other threads on it of course, but nothing that fits my bill. This might be a general thing with battery operation.

    Bike: CBR1000RR 2010 ABS

    Test info
    Installed my fully charged Yuasa battery in my bike today and connected the volt meter. I started the bike and it was showing me that it indeed was charging as expected. As the bike started warming up I started reving it slowly (2-5000 rpm and at each 1k mark) and checking the volts at about 50 degrees celsius and upwards. It went up and down in very inconsistent patterns. All the way between 13v and down to 5v, most of the time in between. When going back to idle at 1500rpm, it went back to 14.3v. When the bike went above 73 degrees celsius the voltage output did not go below 14.2v again and kept it steady at that voltage on each 1k mark up to 5k that I tested. Back to idle, it stayed the same.

    Question
    Is this normal for a the readings to be like this when cold? Could this be the generator cause it "didn't run long enough yet"? Does something drain significantly volts on "boot up" that might cause me to see this?

    Side notes
    Worth noting perhaps; The bike does have ABS, a power commander installed, heated grips connected to the ignition (default off of course), usb outlet directly connected to the battery with nothing attached. Combo rear tail light. Rest is stock.

    I have had a lot of voltage/battery issues since after the first winter storage period I had a few years back, but mostly battery drains over not-that-long-periods and horn not working except for a short period after maintenance charging to full. Almost like the generator doesn't charge it enough. But like my tests above says, it looks like it does. Just some bread crumbs, but for another time. I might have ruined the battery (and the one before it), and I will try out a new one next season to see. And no, no one with electrical experience/local dealer have troubleshooted this.

    At idle you should be getting min 14v ideally, unsure on the effect of increasing revs tbh.

    A mate bought a new to him 13 plate and had battery draining issues. He took it back to the dealer and they stated that the USB power lead was draining the battery.

    I can't see how, but it was disconnected and he has not had any issues since. May be worth checking.

    the charging system volt check is done with the engine up at running temp (75~77). You should not do it straight after you have charged the battery (to eliminate surface charge) or run the lights for 20~30 sec before strating up.
    Honds service book says the volts at the bat terminal should be between bat volts & 15.5v:eek: @5000 rpm. Now 15.5 is way too high and would fry lion batteries and not good for AGM either!
    I actually measured mine @ 5000rpm and much to my relief got 14.5v
    I wouldn't worry about the generator at lower than 3k. In fact at low rpm's the battery hardly gets charged.
    You seem to have quite a few current draining accessories so given the very low AH of the battery (08>>), I would not be surprised at battery life issue nor charging volts dancing around.
    The usb port has a dc>dc convertor which consumes power even when not in use hence the drain.
    you could look into power module blocks with separate ports which you can connect all your accessories to and program each port on/off state indvidually
