is this ok? MOTOBATT MBTX9U BATTERY 20% EXTRA STARTING POWER YTX9BS | eBay some bad reviews here: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/showthread.php?26095-WARNING-Motobatt-batteries-are-****.
I had a Motobat that was less than a year old on my RR7, the datatool alarm would kill it within 12hrs from fully charged. Took it off and bought a standard lead acid battery, not had an issue since. I think that if the Motobat ones are allowed to go flat they never recover and regain their full capacity because of the chemical mix. IMO of course..
TBH also weight wise there is not a lot of difference between the lead acid battery and the Motobatt. At least the old lead battery is tried and tested. I noticed on that link to the streetfighter site that there was a YTZ14 battery mentioned with a higher CCA Possibly worth looking into.. The YTZ14 is taller by 17mm...
I had a motobatt on my old ZX9, it was no better than the basic but respectable battery I had previously and wouldn't last any longer when stored during winter months, nor did it seem to have any more power in starting the engine. Wouldn't say it was bad in any way but nothing special at all.
I brought this one cheap an good quality will fit to fireblade 2004-2007 Numax Numax MOTOBATT MBTZ10S AGM Battery- YTX7A-BS, YTZ10S - CBR, R1, R6 | eBay
I am on my second Motobatt after the first one went from charged to not being able to start the bike (not used, no alarm) in about four days within six months of fitting it. The cheap 'fill with acid' on my NC seems to hold charge when not used better, so I'll be fitting an old fashioned battery when the free replacement fails.
Wanting to try something to improve things, I've taken the Ctek indicator lead off my bike and fitted a standard one instead. The motobatt now seems to hold charge nearly as well as the cheapo lead acid in the NC. Given that the NC does not have an immobiliser - I'll take that. (I am judging this by how quickly after connection the Ctek reaches phase 4 of charging - typically I am hooking the bikes up once a week, on a Saturday morning) Maybe the indicator lead was faulty - surely a set of three LEDs (only one flashing at once) shouldn't use enough power to make a noticeable difference?
