I was just thinking about this. What do you lot think is the best sounding engine (preferably internal combustion) of all time??

I'll chuck these two out there for starters.

Kawasaki's first 4 stroke motoGP bikes: back when they still raced in MotoGP but were struggling - those things banged and popped and farted and rumbled like nothing else - it sounded like the fuelling was absolutely terrible compared to the first RCVs, but some of the noise exiting Donnington's Melbourne loop was bonkers - worth going just for that.

Duno about the best sounding but the loudest is/was Concorde taking off from East Midlands Airport and accelerating at Full chat over Donington Park when the Monsters of Rock all day concerts were on back in the Eighties.

Iron Maiden were headlining that year and Guns n Roses were playing at the time Concorde flew over and it shut them up for a moment I can tell ya!

Yeah I was once stood about 150 yards away from the runway at the Teesside Airshow back in the 1986 when Concorde was there. It took off, flew to the Arctic Circle and came back and landed later on in the show. Loudest thing I've ever heard :D

I'VE DRIVEN A WORKS 6R4 I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS THAT LOUD REALLY!

Seriously, don't ever go in one without cans.

Did anybody see the recent channel 4 documentary, ' The Plane That Saved Britain' about the mosquito? Twin synchronised Merlins, gotta be the top trump card for piston engines, surely?

Try an F18 doing tail slides or a Vulcan climbing out, or, in the good old days, a lightning doing a Mach 1 pass over the crowd line mate. Then you'll realise just how much suppression Concorde carried.

I never witnessed a shuttle launch, but that and a Saturn V....

I've heard some videos on youtube with unaltered sound from shuttle launches. The sound from the SRBs once they get a bit of altitude is ridiculous. God alone knows what it's like when you're actually there.

Just good YouTube a and listen to some of the videos of the spitfire.

I was lucky enough to be at duxford airfield a few years age when my mate fly a few of us there for food and to look around. A hawk us ww2 plane and spitfire where mock dog fighting an the sound was out of this work
