Managed to drop my 2012 blade leaning over at 30mph (ish) on the exit slip road from Brighton Marina tonight. Wasn't braking or accelerating, just driving round the corner and one microsecond later the bike was sliding up the road in a shower of sparks then it hit a kerb/wall. I had a bit more friction so stopped sooner thankfully. The road reeked of diesel and was icy slippery underfoot. Think the front just gave way. Managed to limp the bike home but something's bent, big wobble through the bars at all speeds, exhaust got a friction hole in it, crankcase cover flattened off, whole right side fairing screwed, right clipon bent. I'm guessing it's likely to be an insurance job, NCB not protected A bit gutted, love that bike.
Did you call the Police, was it a large spill, got a Police incident number?. If so you can try the MIB as they will cover you for losses due if the driver is untraceable
Crap news Plake, hope your not too roughed up, I had a similar drop and slide on mine, left side down, after a thorough inspection i replaced all the bent and broken stuff and now she's back, bigger, better and stronger. Hope you get things sorted swiftly.
Yup sorry you have to go though this dude it must be diesel as the roads around mine are still wet and greasy and i am sporting full on like glass chicken strips and just about manage to stay upright .Stealth is right if there was diesel (or still is ) get the council out to record it and try a claim.
Thanks all. Police not involved - not sure who to call about the diesel spill but I have motor legal protection so will ask the question when I speak to them. Highways agency or council maybe? It's about 100m uphill from the petrol station, should have seen it coming really.
There was a big drive in Devon last year to report spills to the County Council in order to protect bikers. It was a great scheme and very forward thinking. Unfortunately it got folded into the highways division and suffocated by the wankers there. Sorry if anybody reading this works for highways but I can produce emails to back up my accusation of onanism amongst your ranks. Anyway Plake. The council might be a good place to start.
shit news mate hope your ok and allways remember as gutting as it is you can buy new bits for the bike but not for yourself
Gutted for you, this time of year is a sod for very changable road conditions throughout the day, i often go into work at 14.00hrs (could be nice and sunny or at least just chilly), but come home at Midnight, pitch black, slippery roads, diesel you can not see etc, i just don't bother with the bike until this month is out of the way and we are way into March. Good luck with the insurance.
Terrible news plake. I'm sorry to hear of your accident, we can only start to imagine how gutted you must feel. However you must act on what has been said regarding the suspect fuel spill. It should be reported to the police at the 1st instance, they inturn contact the highways agency, it's all logged, any incidents amounting to that reported spill, the local highway authority are responsible from there in for everyone's safety. I really hope you get sorted very soon, and the outcome is favourable.
as said as long as your okay, bikes are replaceable although this wont make you feel any better. hope you get her all fixed up soon, do it via breakers yards and save yourself a fortune.
So sorry to hear that, the main thing is your ok but it still hurts to look at the bike all beat up I hope you get it all sorted, it can be repaired
